We all saw that 25y old Kyle Wellwood is playing amazing "" Playoff "" hockey with the Canucks.
The Leafs organization gave up way to fast on this one.

So true Nadya. But this is an organization that also gave up on other promising players - Steen and Colaiacovo. But what do you expect from a franchise that has missed the post season for a fourth year in a row (there hasnt been a playoff game in Toronto since 2003!) and hasn't had so much as a sniff of the Stanley Cup finals in 42 years! :D

I Agree Nadya, they did give up on him and when they let him go my first thought was like "what"?....... but then again, it wasn't Burke, and NOW it is Burke pulling the strings..... why do i have a feeling the Leafs will be a better team than the Habs next year? :D

It's not just the Leafs that give up on good players, Nadya. Look at how well Ribeiro and Ryder have been doing since moving on from Montreal. Some players just don't seem to mesh with certain teams. Whether it's the organization, the coach, the other players or even the city the team is in...some players don't come into their own until they move on.

Which reminds me of a joke...

How many Newfies does it take to beat the Habs?

Just one.... Michael Ryder! :p

Burke is to Leafs fans what Obama is to Americans, the Messiah who will lead them to the promised land.

Keep dreaming. :D

Is Brian B a better choice then Bob Gainey ! Indeed !

Indeed my Dear Habs Fan,
However let us remember that since Serge Savard was let go, our own situation has been dismal !
Our Organization is no longer "" The measuring Stick "" in the NHL !
Not even in my back yard !!!
The Glory days are long gone and the way business is conducted today ,
it's all about keeping your head above the forest and aware of your environment at all times !!!
Gainey was anything but aware of what was going on.
Poor draft picks ! :( !
Jarvis telling him that Francois Beauchemin had no futur in the league ...
and he took his word for it ! !
Carbonneau said the same thing about Mark Streit , that he had no futur
at the blue in the NHL ! ! Do I need to say more !!!

Igna my Dear ! Remember the days of Doug Gilmour and Felix the Cat
during the 93 playoffs !
The Toronto Maple Leafs is the most important franchise in the NHL !
With Brian B in the driver seat this is beautiful !!!
However , the way I see it, the Leafs are still in the bottom 10 of the
league while the Habs are in the middle of the pack.
Before anyone says the Sedin's will be playing for the Leafs next year
well forget about it.
With Mats and Roberto in the lineup why would they wish to leave ???
They wont. Therefore the Habs are still one step ahead.
One small step !

Absolutly !!!
Streit , Beauchemin , Huet , combied with 2003 NHL Entry Draft disaster.
That's when Gainey really blew it !!
Drafting Andrei Kostitsyn instead of Ryan Getzlaf, Jeff Carter or Zach Parise !

Followed in the second round with Cory Urquhart instead of Shea Weber OR PATRICE BERGERON !!! :D !!!
And it never stops ... How about our DRUNK "" Carey Price "" selected instead of Anze Kopitar !

The list goes on !!!

Leading the NHL with 8 Lord Stanley Championships since 1970 : The Montreal Canadiens

Merlot said:
Yeah Habs,

The fact that Montreal had an unbalanced advantage in drafting players is about as fair as baseball teams that have so much more money to monopolize players. It isn't! How many cups would the Canadiens have if player selection had been equal all of those years???

Cheers,

Merlot

Hi Darling !

The answer to this question is 8 ! Witch is the most by any Club
in the NHL since 1970.
Thanks to great trades and draft picks !
I'm speaking of Ken Dryden , Larry Robinson and yes Bob Gainey !!!

:)

The Pens and Sid will knock your crappy Flyers out. Unlike Montreal, Philly has no key injuries, so I can't wait to hear your excuses - but by then you would have jumped off the Flyers bandwagon and be cheering for NYR or Washington.

you are such a loser and a joke gohabsgo.... yes the Flyers lost the series to the pens but I didn't offer up the exuses that you offered...

OK the Flyers did seem to have a number of injuries.... Richards needs sureries on both shoulders... Carter played with a dislocated shoulder... Jones, Gagne, Powe, and Giroux played with injuries... but still played wit more class than the HABS...

YOU GO GOHABSGO... you are such a loser... I love that about you....

Your right Jack Mike Richards track record for itself. He took the gold at the world juniors he was team captain
when he won the Memorial cup.
Richards is a great canadian kid with guts and his only 24.
I'm suspicious of these Habs fans. Yep ... let them dream of the past ...

The Leafs organization gave up way to fast on this one.

From Steve Simmons in today's Toronto Sun:

Anybody in hockey could have had Kyle Wellwood.

All they had to do was pick up the phone.

The truth is, nobody, aside from Don Cherry and the occasional family member, believed in him -- and that includes his current team, the Vancouver Canucks.

It's easy now, with Wellwood having some playoff success, to play the revisionist-history game, to blame the convenient Maple Leafs for letting talent go without getting anything in return.

But the sequence of events needs to be re-examined: 1) The Leafs waived Wellwood in June of last year; 2) Vancouver claimed him and signed him in early July; 3) The Canucks placed Wellwood on waivers in mid-October and sent him to Manitoba; 4) Every team in the NHL passed on Wellwood, even though he was earning less than $1 million US per season; 5) After recalling Wellwood, the Canucks scratched him from a number of games this season, even though he was not injured.

To recap: The Leafs didn't want him. The Canucks didn't believe in him. The rest of the National Hockey League wasn't interested.

Goes to show that sometimes everybody can be wrong, at least over the short term. The Canucks were willing to spend $20 million on Mats Sundin and wound up with a more effective player for a fraction of that cost.

Amen.

Beautifull Nadya, i still think unless Mtl goes out and gets some free agents, along with their continuing to groom the young guys from the minors, there in for a very very long 2009/2010 season, but time will tell.....

i cant wait for Burke to do something this summer, and i wouldnt rule out the Sedin twins in TO next season in Leafs Jerseys...... they both no Sundin may not be the answer for the Canucks and well Luongo needs another defensmen which they may or may not be able to get......

they cant have
Jay Bouwmeester , cause Burke already has his eye on him :D (wishfull thinking and crossing fingers of course!)

I don't want Bouwmeester with the Leafs if he'll cost them $7 million, which is what he's rumoured to be asking for. He's not worth it. Maybe $5 million, but not a penny more. I'd take Chris Pronger for maybe $4 million for a couple of years.

Hi guys !!!

Indeed !!!

It will be very interesting to see the direction that Brian B will take !
Anything over 5m a year for Jay Bouwmeester may become another
Daniel Briere nightmare . Look at the results .
Paul Holmgren and Bob Gainey are two of the worst GM's in my book.

Now to today's news !
Will the Bruins survive the Storm ??? Today Boston simply played aweful !!!
Are we looking at the First Major upset ???

I wouldn't pay a defenceman anything over $4 million when he's mostly a strictly defense-first player.

I like Paul Holmgren. It's not his fault Briere kept getting injured. But most of his other moves paid off.

Don't forget, Nadya....i'm the only one on this whole board who predicted that the Canes would upset the Bruins. I've also picked Anaheim to beat the Red Wings.
