Rangers retaliated against Islanders last night with 5-0 win. 2 goals for Panarin, 2 goals for player of game Buchnevich, 1 for Kakko and 1,000.00 save % for backup goalie Georgiev. I like that the Rangers finally have some good Russian players. It's been a long time, the 3 best Russians they had in the past were Alexei Kovalev, Sergei Nemchinov and Sergei Zubov, all of whom played on the 1994 Stanley Cup Champions, but it's been a long time since those guys were on the team.

The TV game today is Capitals vs. Penguins. There was a time when Crosby v. Ovechkin games were the most watched but at this point neither one is really a top 5 NHL player any more. Neither team seems like a legitimate Stanley Cup contender. So the game maybe isn't as marquis a matchup as it should be or as it was 10 years ago. Crosby and Ovechkin have had to move over for guys like McDavid, Draisaitl, McKinnon, Rantanen, Matthews, just to name a few. I would like to see where they actually rank in the Top 20 NHL players as of right now.

Two Canadian division games tonight at 9 pm on ESPN+, I am assuming East Coast will see Canadiens at Oilers while West Coast sees Canucks at Flames.

Overchkin, 3 Other Caps on Covid List; Caps Fined $100,000:

Interesting. I wonder how they got caught spending time with each other in a hotel room?

Under the NHL Covid protocols each facility has a compliance officer and between that person and hotel security, I would say someone was maybe watching security video and actually doing their jobs, otherwise maybe they were ratted out or complained on by another hotel guest for making too much noise. This did happen in a Pittsburgh hotel room, and if a Penguins fan was next door they wouldn't think twice about turning these guys in to the hotel security.

it can be lonely for an NHL player on the road. But these guys are going to need to suck it up.

In an important college hockey game today featuring MANY NHL draft picks, UConn (with a program record 9 NHL draft picks on its roster) upset #1 ranked Boston College, scoring 2 goals in the last 3 minutes to tie the game, and then 2 for 2 in the shootout to beat Spencer Knight, the goalie who just a couple weeks ago shut out Team Canada in the World Juniors. UConn has now won their last 2 games against BC and play them again tomorrow, and was 3 goals better against Spencer Knight than Team Canada was a few weeks ago.

Here is the UConn goal which tied the game in regulation, Johnny Evans on a pass from Vlad Firstov:
