Hello JB,

There really isn't much anyone can determine from the video regarding provocation. But though I can't blame anyone for have extreme emotions against possible racial insults/baiting, if that was said, there is absolutely no justification whatsoever for the savagery of the beating these guys got. There was no real threat of harm to 20 or so people from 2 fools who may have hurled racist remarks that justifies a frenzy of violence. What we can be sure of is that the attackers behaved like beasts.

Not condoning the beating but the reports in the initial post by DH clearly indicate that the minor injuries, bruises and cuts did not require hospitalization. Nor did the two men from Waterloo wish to press charges.


Victims of beatings have been killed, crippled for life or hospitalized for months in a lot less time than the attack shown in the video.

Also the video does not show the prelude, whether the two men from Waterloo made claims or gestures that indicated that they were armed.

Two Waterloo Men Swarmed in Montreal

Montreal police are investigating the brutal beating of two young men from Waterloo, who were swarmed Friday on a downtown city street in an incident allegedly instigated by racial slurs directed at a group of black people, according to an Internet video.

The beating lasted 23 seconds and left the two men, aged 23 and 26 years, lying on the pavement in a condition described as "near dead" as bystanders laughed and hooted.

A female voice is heard in the video repeatedly yelling "that's nigger right there, ha, ha."

A male voice close to camera then says: "Stupid idiot, why would he say that?"

The beating happened at about 10:45 p.m. near the intersection of Sainte-Catherine Street and Peel in downtown Montreal, said Const. Laurent Gingras.

A buddy of mine just told me the hotel he was in Saturday evening had bunch of rooms trashed that night and the hotel's underground parking looked like a dump. Same type of crowd?

And of course you are the missing eye-witness who will answer all the unknown factors. Certainly no prosecutor or lawyer would call you as a witness. Certainly the police are not looking to question you about this incident.

Yet you have all your conclusions neatly arranged to fit your narrow perspective. Eliminate police work, due process and put the video on the internet and someone miles away will have the answer.

are very evident. No proof of racial taunts has been submitted yet by the third post above YOU characterize the victims as "sick-minded racists" and the beaters as the "vengeful murderous thugs" - I have taken the liberty of correcting your typos.

Now do you have proof of or were you an eye witness to the "racial taunts"? Was an actual murder committed?

You do not have such proof nor were you an eye witness. As for the "murderous thugs" characterization that you used the facts of the matter are that the minor injuries, cuts and bruises did not even require hospitalization. In fact we have a situation where the victims of "murderous thugs" actually walk away - would other murder victims be so fortunate.

Further in the thread you get into the "gangsta" end of things and other rants that do not advance finding the actual guilty parties as opposed to simply characterizing and generalizing.

Update

Back channel sources indicate that the video shows only the last part of a dispute that saw the two alleged victims challenge and lose straight-up fights including a re-match,MMA style to two other young men.

Frustration produced the racial taunts, challenges to the crowd and the resulting mob scene.

Will keep you posted.

Gangstas and murderous thugs...

are characterized by peer group affiliation; also their violence would be "organized". No sign of such affiliation nor of such organized violence in the video.

Judging from the video, the incident would qualify more as a skirmish incidental to a random release of hormones.

The important thing is no one got seriously hurt.

Child play

The last kick was seriously nasty and could have resulted in paralysis.The victim on the ground wasn't able to protect or brace himself. That cowardly attacker should be found and charged.

Child play, especially when children are built like adults, too often results in injuries.

Glad that no gangstas or no murderous thugs were part of this otherwise the kids would be dead.
