So nice to see Denys Arcand winning the Oscar (along with Denise Robert and Daniel Louis) for “The Barbarian Invasions”.

Only two other Canadian movies have been nominated in the past, both in the Foreign Language Film category:

Jesus of Montreal (1989) and The Decline of the American Empire (1986) Both directed by Denys Arcand.

Atom Egoyan won the Grand Prix du jury at the Cannes Film Festival. He also received Academy Award nominations for Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay that year (1997).

Oscar Pre-cast

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone caught that Oscar pre-cast. Did you see that Maria Menundos chick ! I have noticed her before on Entertainment tonight. Oh my Frikkin G--, what a chick what a dress she was wearing! I have spent most of the day trying to find pictures of her on the internet. So far no luck. if anyone can find some links please post !

Eager... The Sweet Hereafter is a must-see movie for lawyers. Same is The Rain Maker (Matt Damon, Danny DeVito, 1997). These are two very powerful movies. Now imagine that most of the times its the othe side the wins, the one with the $. That is scary, as is reality out there sometimes

Any more must-see movies for lawyers? There are just so many it is impossible just to pick one or two. Including the Runaway Jury that I just saw on DVD. Very nicely done.

Barbarians at the gate (1993) and Glengarry Glen Ross (1992) are must see movies for salespeople.

The Barbarian's Marie-Josée Croze

It was a real injustice that Barbarian's Marie-Josée Croze (the compassionate junkie) didn't get some kind of best actress nomination from the Academy. She did win best actress at Cannes, I think. She had a great role and made the most of it!
