MONTREAL - The Montreal Biodome’s Scarlet macaw will be deported to the Toronto Zoo next Friday after she only spoke English during a government inspection.

The parrot - known as “Bouton” - was the star attraction at the Tropical Ecosystem exhibit and very popular with tourists.

Chief of Animal Compliance at the Office Québecoise de la Langue Française Florence Laplante conducted two surprise visits to the Montreal attraction last week.

“On both occasions, Bouton only spoke to visitors in English,” said Lachance. “She asked for crackers, not craquelins.” Lachance continued: “Bouton also violated OQLF rules about French being the official language of the workplace. The presence of unilingual animals excludes many québecois birds from pursuing jobs in this sector.”

Polly’s trainer, Jacques Delorme tried to take matters into his own hands by creating a French immersion course in a bid to stave off her deportation. “Every night, we made Bouton listen to ‘Star Académie’ and audiobooks about Lucien Bouchard,” Delorme explained. “However, these efforts were in vain.”

Bouton’s replacement, Marie-Eve, a Francophone Spectacled parrotlet arrives from Fossambault-sur-le-Lac next week.

UPDATE: A petition has been created to save Bouton from being deported to the Toronto Zoo.

Before this turns into another language war, everyone should be aware that Thebeaverton is a satirical news site like The Onion is in the US and does not report actual events.

Bahahahaha omg This is one of the funniest jokes I've heard in awhile thanks for the laugh. On a related topic I heard that the PQ is trying to change the name of English muffins on menus to Muffin Maudite Anglais.

This is a scandal that needs to be denounced at the highest levels. Parrots speak the language of the people they see day in and day out. The fact that Bouton speaks English implies that most visitors of the Biodome are anglophones. No french visitors, thus no harm from Bouton speaking English. This deportation is at the same time abusive and pradoxical. Deport Bouton to El Biodomo de Roma and he will do like Romains and start speaking fluent Italian.

Finally, the article did not mention if Bouton was speaking English during his shift or on breaks. Very disturbing news.

Perhaps a way to resolve the issue is to keep Bouton and bring in a parrot from a Paris zoo, so that there is then bilingualism among Biodome parrots.

Ok substitute "French speaking parrot" for Parisian parrot in my prior post. The point was you pair off Bouton with a French-speaking counterpart. You will then have bilinguism among Biodome parrots. Problem solved.

I was replying to Mr. Black with his parisian exemple.

And there is no point to make, this thread is a joke. There is no deportation. There is no news. Anyone who believed that should get a reality check.

You have to realize that as mush as there is divisions between English and French paris that paris French refer to French from quebec as a slang version of the real language and only paris French is the true French is Parisian
here is a quote from a Parisian person I found and I have hear it many times-
but Canadian French sounds very strange to Parisian ears. I heard a fine example of Quebecois French yesterday and it was painful, although I had no trouble understanding it. I'd say the magnitude of the difference is similar to that between American English and RP.

as well I personally find Parisians speak very clear and are easy to understand.

what language are you speaking in?

I personally find John S Black speak muddy and aren't simply to comprehend... :noidea:
