Percentage of Hobbyist who TIP

Tipping has been brought up countless times on these boards. Its a German policy in the FKK clubs NEVER to tip. If you post a review and state that you gave a girl extra you WILL be told by the board members never to do that.

But this is the Montreal board...and I think it would be good to know how many actually tip an SP or MP. This has probably been posted before but this time Id like to request the members of the board who are Sp's or Mp's to refrain from voting...seeing that they dont do the tipping.

Again, at the risk of repeating myself: Tipping is highly personal and has nothing to do with extras. I still believe in tipping after I received a great service from an agency lady. As I stated above, my tipping policy has changed for high priced indies. I basically feel that their tips are included in their rates.

P.S. If you see an agency lady who is awesome for two hours and you tip her $40-$60, it is going to kill you.

I don’t want to appear nitpicky here, but I couldn’t help noticing that your question is problematic because of the word “frequently.” We all have a different sense of what “frequently” means. As such, the poll results will be unclear. Perhaps a range of numerical (%) values would be helpful: e.g., 0-25%, 26-50%, 51-75%, 76-100%, with the qualification “when you have received excellent service.”

Does giving taxi money or taking a SP out for lunch or supper after the session count as tipping?

Alternatively, and in light of your explanatory post, you might simply rephrase the question to read: Do you, as a hobbyist, feel that it is appropriate to tip SPs when they provide excellent service. this, of course, won't tell us whether voters actually tip but it will give a good indicationof how they stand onthe matter.

Outside this hobby (hotel, bar, club (especially when place is full pack and waitress have to run)) tips give you a better service... but in that business its much more a way to say 'thank you' or when service was more than expected...

It depends. I have tipped in order to get extra service, I have tipped for good service and I have not tipped at all. I don't have any hard and fast rules. Life is too short, and should be lived spontaneously and on occasion, whimsically.

Guess the better question i should have asked was 'when do you tip?'...at the beginning of the hour or at the end? If its at the beginning then its no longer a tip...its trying to get better service. If its at the end your aiming to please the lady getting her to smile that she's getting a little extra.

So that's two sides of the coin. The third side of tipping is your influencing the raising of the rates. At the end of the night the girl's thinking she should be making "this much" compared to her "normal rate". Now she's looking for a higher priced agency in order to make the higher rate.

I look at tipping as another way of saying thanks. For that reason it seems almost obligatory for me to tip anywhere from $20-50...$30 is most typical. It all depends on how nice and attentive she was, the percentage of the fee, whether she is at an LDL or an HDH rate: then there is simply a certain feeling of propriety. I tip something at least 95% of the time. Sometimes I give it at the beginning, often I give it at the end.

As for what the effect of tipping has on rates, I never worry about that. I do what I think I should do and no other consideration matters to me. I am interested in the opinions of others, but in the end that will not matter to me at all. But there is a limit for me. If I want to see someone who asks for a much higher than average fee, I realize accepting that rate is my choice, but $50 for a tip is my absolute limit. After all, I am just some average bastard with just enough money to have some fun and I cannot afford to get crazy.

I used to tip systematically as soon as the encounter was ok. Just as in a restaurent...

Now I am a little bit more selective and tip only if the attitude is well over the avarage and deserves a special mention... I have never tiped for extra. I always stick to the "normal menu" !!

I don't tip SP's from established quality agencies. As someone stated in another thread, I don't tip doctors, lawyers and other professionals who charge high hourly rates and SP's fall in that category. The price is set, that's what I pay.

I don't tip but if the sp and I have a great time together I "tip" with repeat and repeat business. And I think that makes both of us happy.

If everybody gets an "A" in a particular university, it's grade inflation and the degree is worthless. But if an agency SP made you feel great, then tip her. Remember, half the money goes to the agency, if not more.

Ummm, I do not anyone that has "unlimited disposable income". I value my hard earned dollars as much as the next guy. But if you cannot afford to spare an extra $40-$60 for an SP that you met for two hours, then maybe you should see less of them and stick to the few that consistently get great reviews.

Why is her social time more valuable than the client's? Isn't the client interesting to talk to? Doesn't the client have other friends he could be with? Doesn't he have other activities he could be engaging in for fun or profit?

Let me be brutally honest with all of you. If you take an SP out for lunch or dinner, just be fully cognizant that she is still on the job, playing you, and that her goal is to entice you to repeat with her.

The best SPs that I know do this as if it's a nonchalant encounter, no big deal. But I now recognize that they really want your business, just like the lawyer and accountants want it too.

I am not being cynical here. I can enjoy a lunch or dinner with an SP but I also know that she is not meeting me because she really cares about me. We are not true friends.

No SP that I've met would be by my side if I really needed her. Ask yourself this: if I suddenly became poor and destitute, would she help me if I needed her assistance? I highly doubt it (there are more clients helping them out in their dire needs).

Finally, in my opinion, dinners, lunches and especially trips with SPs are a total waste of emotional capital and they should be reserved for people that are truly special in your life.

As long as you remember the ever present boundaries in hobbyland, you'll be fine.

Well she started crying. Now what have I done, I am thinking. She went on to explain that someone had stolen $50 from her earlier in the day and she really needed the money and she said I was like a magician who returned her money. She was crying because she was so happy. Imagine me a knight in shining armour.

Doesn't that make you feel good? I recently met a provider who was really tight with money. She needed to pay many overdue bills and she was visibly upset. I carefully gauged the situation and I could tell she wasn't bullshitting me. How do I know for sure? I don't but let me tell you, when I gave her a royal tip, she insisted on giving it back to me. I insisted she keep it and she just thanked me.

If she really needs the money, then I am glad I tipped her generously. If she played me, well, I am still glad I did the right thing. But I doubt she played me - my bullshit detector has progressed a lot since my early hobby days.

The rationale remains the same. If "those who deserve it" get tipped often, then they will come to expect a tip. If an SP deserves a grade of 'A', she will get "tipped" by my repeat business, others will not. Heck I'll even throw in a few compliments and make her feel like she provided the best service I ever had.

But if you cannot afford to spare an extra $40-$60 for an SP that you met for two hours, then maybe you should see less of them and stick to the few that consistently get great reviews.

Bad cost/benefit ratio. Thanks for the advice but I'd rather put that $40-$60 towards another encounter.

So you know your going to tip. Where do you put the tip? Do you put the tip in with the rest of the fee? Or do you keep it in a seperate pocket?

What if the service isnt anything like you hoped...do you still tip? If you already included the tip in the 'envelope'...do you take it out?

And if you paid at the beginning and included the tip with the fee...and the service sucked...do you ask for the tip back?

It is obvious that you are not happy with guys who tip - why keep rephasing the question just to get those guys to agree with you?

From my experience, most guys tip AFTER the session, though I have met with some on a repeat basis who tipped automatically (I guess they assumed I would be just as good as last time) and once, someone tipped me on a second session, upset that he hadn't tipped me the first time.

Did I come to expect tips because of this? Nope. Did I raise my rates because of this? Nope. Did I decide that I would only see the guys I know are tippers? Nope.

Clearly BM - you are not a tipper, you are a repeater, some guys are not repeaters but tip instead, and still others fall into both catergories.
