Personal Email and Number? Or get single use version?

Hey MERB community,

I'm new here, just trying to figure out how this all works.

I'm wondering if people usually just use their regular email and phone numbers for this type of stuff, or is it worth it to get additional emails and phone numbers?

I'm not attempting to keep this secret from my significant other (she actually is interested in knowing how it goes), mainly I'm trying to ensure it doesn't reach wider friends and family, or impact career related stuff.

Just trying to get a sense of what level of private most people attempt to operate under.

Also, what mode of communication is best to use in your experience? Phone, SMS, Email?

It depends... I use a seperate email. For phone, you can try to use an app... but be warned most providers and agencies will simply ignore them as they can detect bulk numbers used by such apps (ex: fongo, burnerapp etc...). So if you try to use one, you'll know why you're ignored.

My smartphone supports both sim and secondary esim (which I use for travel and hobby and can be activated for short term usage). But if you have an older phone, you can activate it with a cheap Koodo or Canadian tire pay as you go phone/data plan. Keep in mind, if you do have an iPhone, you may want to double check what email is being broadcasted as your iCloud ID (you can change that in the settings).

Some "higher end" providers do request to validate your real info via linkedin or even employer.... I would never.

Considering that its actually illegal for Johns, I refrain from using anything that is linked to my real info... but that's me.

As for prefered communications, that will depend on the provider - most prefer only text, others will accept emails / calls...

I’m new to the hobby. I use my only phone to text the agency. Any potential troubles I could get into?

That could explain why I almost never get an answer from the younger generations, but older independents do reply. I had been using an app (Hushed) to get around to getting another sim card+plan, which is a lot more expensive monthly than the Hushed subscription.
