I read the entire article & i’m left surprised that he got sentenced to prison. Why? Because this whole case appears to be entrappment. So basically he got sentenced for asking for a fee to attend his gangbangs & then offering to pay the women who voluntarily attended. Sure there’s the case of hoping to recruit a 16-year old female to attend the activities however he never advertised this & it was only known when he mentioned this to an undercover cop. This more than likely would have never happened anyway had the cops never set up this undercover scheme. By the way the age of consent in Canada is 16. That’s likely why he didn’t mention wishing to get a girl under 16 in the activities he organized. He likely figured that he wasn’t looking to do anything illegal. Why was he found guilty & sent to prison? Likely for requesting the men to pay a fee to join the activities, which always happens in these types of groupsex activities & renumerating the female participants for services rendered which is also often (but not always) the norm.

Paying for sexual services has been illegal in Canada for nearly a decade. So I’m guessing that he shouldn’t have been charging male members to attend & also not have been offering to compensate females who participated. Or precisely offering to pay a possible 16-year old female had such a person ever been successfully recruited to join the activities. But this never happened & we only learned of this when he discussed it privately with an undercover cop & later with another cop impersonating a 16-year old. Indeed he asked for nude pictures & sent the cop a dick pic but as i mentioned the age of consent in Canada is 16. And this all happened during a police sting. So either he got a really raw deal (since this in my opinion is entrapment 101) or he had a shitty lawyer. Yeah hoping to recruit a 16-year old is kind of sick but he only did this verbally to an undercover cop. Personally i think any sex worker under 20 is questionable but the age of consent to be a sex worker in Canada is 18. I’m left to believe that in this particular situation the convicted person never should have offered to pay any of the females participating in his organized events & this also includes charging men a fee to attend. These participants were also all technically guilty since it’s a crime to pay for sex in Canada.

The lesson in this story? Don’t organize or join gangbangs or group sex events if there’s going to be money involved. Especially if you’re considering inviting 16-18 year olds although technically the age of consent being 16. No money involved? My guess is that would be tolerated, right? The biggie is the money.

Paying for sexual services between willing adults has been illegal in Canada for nearly a decade, but nobody cares, the penalty is too small and first offenders usually get "Johns school" as an option to avoid charges

How many clients had been condemned and had faced jail for this after a decade? assuming only the basic "soliciting for sex" and no additional stuff like traffic, pimping, underage or violence?
probably very few if any

for me it is clear they planted the 16 year old to add more serious charges and to destroy any kind of leniency he might find at court or with the general public, as not everybody sees organizing gangbangs as a crime, and even less as a serious crime

Absurd! Any charges in a trial needs to be backed with bulletproof facts to get condemned, he got sentenced!

I had to read the article again before replying to this post. You are correct, by the way. The sting had already been going on before the discussion about a 16 year old even happened. And that discussed only happened when it was initiated by the undercover cop who was impersonating a woman interested in joining his parties. It came up during one of their interactions, likely via text. Like “yeah, it would be cool to have a 16-yr old female joining our activities.” The subject in my view was likely brought up by the cop in order to make the sting appear more legitimate. Since in all appearance it was initiated to investigate what was going on at these gangbangs & if there was any financial incentive for a female to join these parties. If the organizer said that no money would be paid to compensate the female participants my guess is that they would mostly be sausage parties, am i wrong? It wouldn’t surprise me if the cop might have said “Oh, i thought i could make a bit of money if i agreed to attend one of your parties so if not well…” and the guy could have said “Oh wait! Of course i’ll consider compensating you if you agree to come! Please come! We need new female members to attend! The mpre, the merrier!” Or something to that effect.

Anyways i’m really surprise that the cops would waste a lot of time & money setting up undercover stings on gangbangs. It’s not like he was the only one organizing them. Sure there was his wish or possible intent on recruiting a possible 16-yr old female to join his parties…but it was brought up during the sting to the undercover officer who purposely set him up with another officer pretending to be a 16-yr old female interested in joining the parties & get paid for her attendance. I’m led to believe that had he told her that she wasn’t going to be paid for her participation (while those 18 & over would have been paid) then it would have been okay?

E-N-T- R-A-P-M-E-N-T.

He’s guilty of hiring a lousy lawyer! I would have represented him for free & got him off with a fine & possibly some community service. Not a day spent serving time. And why the hell is our government wasting our tax money setting up stings on investigating sexual activities between consenting adults?

This is not what happened years ago when they sent two undercover cops at L’Orage to investigate swingers clubs & the case was laughed out of court when the female & male cops admitted on the witness stand that they were also fully involved in the activities & i still remember (i attended the trial at the time) the female cop confessing that she had enjoyed her time there. Loved it!

Personally in this case i simply believe that either it was an overzealous conservative judge who sentenced the party organizer or an incompetent defence attorney who was way over his head. Likely a crappy public defender.

Lesson for any future sex party organizer: if you’re planning to invite 16-18 year old females to your parties, specify to them that they will not be paid for their participation. Paying them for sex services is a no-no.

As I mentioned in my original post, we have to be careful in expressing an opinion, because the JdeM provides a notoriously incomplete picture of the criminal cases they cover. We don't even know the exact crimes he pleaded guilty to! I am not a lawyer, but I am a regular observer of the criminal justice system. That being said:

He’s guilty of hiring a lousy lawyer!

While I have no sympathy for the guy, I had the same thought when I read this article. It is always hazardous to compare crimes, but I could cite examples of manslaughter that led to four to five years in jail, or less. To play the devil's advocate, crimes that are planned and executed over a long period of time do tend to lead to harsher sentences. That is the case here. But what really leads me to believe that this person had a bad laywer is that he was kept in jail prior to trial, which is highly unusual when there is no flight risk or risks to public safety.

If the journalist is reporting the facts accurately, what you are saying is incorrect.

There has to be more to it than we’re being told. Were they really just doing a sting on a guy for simply organizing group sex parties? These have been going around for decades & the last time cops investigated group sex activities involving consenting adults they were laughed out of court especially after admitting they were also willing participants & said they even enjoyed themselves & one female cop admitted that she even continued to go after the investigation was over! Plus over the years i’ve met cops who were hobbyists & some of them even took some of their favorite sex workers on trips down south. Cops I’ve questioned about this would reply “Hey we’re entitled to a private life also & even if you’re a cop it doesn’t mean that you’re not horny too!” Heck many years ago some of the ladies or strippers at FS clubs would even ask me if i was a cop & would add that i reminded them of some of the cops they once had as regular clients! So there must be more to the whole thing than starting a sting wasting a lot time & tax dollars (especially when the government is flat broke) just to investigate some guy who used to organize activities among willing & consenting adults! Was there any suspected sex trafficking going on that we haven’t been told about? This case is a strange one!

Since there was no trial, because he pleaded guilty, there will be much left unknown. When I have the opportunity I will check the court records to at least have the list of the crimes he pleaded guilty to. I will update the thread in due course.

Was consent given freely and expressed throughtout the activities? Again, we don't know. I've never been to a "sex party" and have no plan of going to one, but I can imagine that this is the kind of setting where consent may easily become vitiated. Was that even part of the investigation? More unknowns.
