The problem with people here is that you cannot apply our western values to a situation that did not happen in Canada or the USA. What is the norm and accepted behaviour here does not make it right in some other country... Until you see these acts from a non western point of view you should not be judging what is right from wrong.
President Putin showed a lot of self restraint and clemency in granting the anarchists freedom recently. He showed he ws a compassionate person with a kind heart.
Your statements sound good, but in reality are just empty platitudes and simply a cop-out. The defense of human rights and freedom from unjust punishment are not "Western" concepts, but rather core elements of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted by the United Nations General Assembly, representing all nations on the planet. Furthermore, your belief that Putin's actions are motivated by Putin's self-restraint, clemency, compassion and kind heart does not indicate an enlightened view, free from influence of the bias of Western media, but instead is a simplistic fairy-tale view of political power, and a failure to face up to the hard realities of power politics. Putin couldn't care less about the harshness of the punishment handed out to the members of Pussy Riot. He is motivated by pure self-interest. His actions are a blatant attempt to appease the international community in advance of the Olympic Games. His prestige is on the line and he will do everything in his power to help ensure that the Games are a success. Fairy tales are for children. You need to face up to the harsh realities of life in the real world!
