Apparently he had a heart attack while taking a morning walk. I'm sure that a lot of us here were familiar with a number of his films.

He directed such '80s hit films as "The Breakfast Club,"Weird Science," "Sixteen Candles" and "Ferris Bueller's Day Off."

He was 59.

I didn't think his movies were boring, just somewhat sappy.

Mia Sara was hot in Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

There was something hot about Molly Ringwald too. :p

.

And also Planes Trains and Automobiles, a personal fav. of mine.
Sappy movies or not, anyone who has helped make millions of people laugh has a legacy to be proud of.

That's one of my favorite movies. I had forgotten that he had done that one. I looked him up on IMDB and found that he had a hand in many movies that were among my favorites like the Home Alone series, first one is the best, Uncle Buck and the National Lampoon Vacation films.

Hello Techman,

His movies were fun, lightly funny and successful. But I wouldn't call any of them "landmark". He did very well largely in a narrow niche (teen angst) that had a large pre-made audience. I'd call most of them a good diversion, but not much more. I found the Breakfast Club boring. The first Home Alone was fun farcical slapstick, but it's funny that the best scene was the serious connection between the kid and the old man...in my view. Still, one cannot argue with his success. He did had a very good career.

Cheers,

Merlot

He was not that old, he died of a heart attack while walking his dog. I wonder if his early death has anything to do with his amazing acheivements.
