There was a debate on Facebook. Do you cook it or eat it right away?

TLDR: read the labels on your disinfecting products.

Most people use their disinfectant sprays wrong, and it all has to do with contact time (i.e. the amount of time the surface stays wet).

For instance, on my bottle of Lysol All-Purpose Cleaner, it says that the surface must stay wet for 30 seconds to "sanitize". This will kill E. Coli, Salmonella and a couple of other ones. To "disinfect", the surface must stay wet for 10 minutes (!!) in order to remove a whole slew of bacteria listed on the label.

The point is most people, I assume, don't leave it on for 30 seconds, let alone 10 min! (You'd likely have to spray a second time during those 10 minutes). For disinfecting wipes, at least the ones I have, contact times range from 30 seconds to 4 minutes. Again, almost nobody will use them in a way the surface remains wet for that long.

(That's got to be one of the most elaborated random–but useful–thoughts on this thread.)
