just learned that Annie Altman was an SP, homeless, and did not have any savings. her brother is the famous Sam Altman, CEO of openAI. Annie Altman claimed her brothers abused her when she was young, and her family neglected & abandoned her.

what she claimed was probably true, but I still don't understand why did not she ask her brother for help and why did not Sam Altman reach out to help his baby sister. Sam Altman was the CEO of openAI, could easily arrange a prune job for her at his company or any company, jobs like executive assistant earning a big fat cheque for "picking up the phone".

family relations are difficult to understand, but this is hard to watch.

"Annie Altman claimed her brothers abused her when she was young, and her family neglected & abandoned her."

" I still don't understand why did not she ask her brother for help"

I'm going to take a wild guess here and say the first sentence is the answer to the second one

Why assume accusations are true? not saying they are fabricated, just don’t think we have info.

PS: if allegations are false it also explains why he is not helping her.

Shitty situation either way. Sad family.

PKP had a similar situation
Yeah, the Péladeau brothers we’re in a very similar situation. I would point out to the fact that, when we read the term « abused », it is not always(although it very often is) about sexual abuse. There are many ways to abuse a vulnerable person and, voluntarily. keep him/her in a precarious position to ones benefit.

This isn't even a situation in which you'd have a reason to pull the "what about false accusations?" card. This isn't a courtroom, this is just a woman claiming her family abused her and someone asking why she didn't ask her family for help. (Worth nothing that abuse doesn't necessarily mean sexual as pointed out by @Cap'tain Fantastic )

I'm not sure I understand the goal of this question to be honest? Do you think she should ask the family that she claims abused her for help, just in case the accusations are false? What are we trying to gain from the whataboutism here? I'm lost

I was just reacting to him saying “what she claimed was probably true”. We have no idea what is true and what is not!

And yes, the abuse might not have been sexual… even though Sam’s sexual orientation (gay) could have evolved over time and abuse is not about sex

I am trying to understand family values here, aren't family members supposed to help each other? it would only take her brother 10 minutes to pick up the phone to solve her lifelong problem.

And if he did, because of the abuse she claims has happened, would out right refuse, not wanting the family who abused and abandoned her to have leverage over her.
And the very fact that she has gotten into SW is a likely sign shit went down in her upbringing. The privledged don't fall so far from grace without provocation, and a fair amount of skeletons in the accumulated family closet.
Family values rarely fix the problems created by the family. Family feuds are often the result.
There is no sense in victim shaming, or denying allegations. As specified the kind of abuse isn't clear. But does explain a possibility why even if the family tried to reach out, she wouldn't accept their help at this point, prefering to keep distance from her abusers.

I understand people have pride, when comparing to homeless and living on the street, accepting helps from family members are just logical option...

Not when you've chosen to live on the streets to get away from them. That's like telling every runaway ever why don't you go back home to your warm bed... Because there was unforgivable things happening at home and they prefer to brave the cold streets than to deal with the even worse home they have run away from.

It's not about pride. It's about personal safety, and not accepting being treated poorly.
