After Syd left, Pink Floyd was never again as good - much more commercially successful (the U2 way - pander to the masses and get mainstream success) but without the genius......

.....greedy ambitious careerists like Saint Bono

Hurting my feelings

Joel please don't confuse my spirited defense of those who you have blatantly maligned as hurt feelings. While I appreciate your seeming attempt to "see things my way", even if it came up empty, I am not looking to change your mind. Like you, I also believe there is room for lots of different opinions on what constitutes good music. You don't like U2? Fine. Too each his own, so peace to you as well.

What troubled me enough to call you on your music posts was that you seem a little too "involved" if you will, in "hating" Bono(see above quote) despite all the evidence that he is in fact a great humanitarian whether or not you like his music, after all Joel you have never even met the man. Furthermore, your insinuation that commercial success means you forfeit your "genius" and automatically become part of the "Mainstream Bullshit Music Mass Media Monster" is just about as pessimistic a view as I can imagine. Some people just sell more records than others, it doesn't always mean they make great music but sometimes they do, of course thats a matter of opinion as to which ones are good and which ones are crap.

I am happy to see you have backtracked on Roger Waters at least. I trust from your above quote you can understand why anyone reading it would assume that you didn't think much of him. Dare I say we share some musical "taste" after all?

That's a shame but hardly a surprise. Gilmore hates Waters and they were probably both afraid that the other would show up so neither did. Doesn't excuse them, or the rest of the band, though. Hopefully they were thinking about him.

I saw Jethro Tull last year when they came to the Bell Center. Fantastic show and the music sounds as good as, if not better, than the day it was originally released. Also saw the Yes concert last year and it was also excellent. These "old timers" could give lessons to most of todays artists on how to put on a good show.

I saw the Australian Pink Floyd show two years in a row and I will definately see them when they come back this year. If you're a Floyd fan they are worth seeing as the music and show is as close to seeing the real thing as anyone will ever get. They have Floyds light show, background films as well as the giant animal balloons. It was like going back in time.

To ad top great rpck ban, i liked very much Gentle giant and jethro tull (remember Aqualung?)and i had the chance to see the former in a small town. I think that Gentle giant form Uk was best known in Qc that in their own country.

Back to Pink floyd i remember with shivering this «song» on the double album (what is the title btw) and this «careful with this axe eugene»(?) and some other tracks that use a lot of synthetizers to reprensent some bizarre anf fanstastic sounds of small creatures from the wood.

I am a big fan of progressive rock music as well and i had the chance to see Robert Fripp in Qc city some years ago. But i have to say his music is quite cold. There was almost just guys at his show, no wonder since it is not a music girls like a lot (talking too much in the head and not to the heart or the body, i mean to dance.)But he is a great guitarist, and he was a rela gentleman who lets the fans ask him anything about him or his former band King Crimson.Very cool.

The singer of Yes, anbderson, came in town for le Festival d'été and made a show with Annie Villemeuve. Strange.

Jacknill,

You,re from Quebec city, the mecca of progressive rock in NA.
I usually see most prog bands, big or small when they come to Montreal.
Robert Fripp I saw with Project3 in 1998 and then with g-3 in 98-99.
You're right, prog rock is a guy thing, most my prog friends are guys and their wives or gf can't stand the music!
Not enough romantic and personal, too cerebral.
Gentle Giant,Van Der Graaf generator,Supertramp,Genesis,Pink Floyd ect,...were all big in Quebec while almost unknown in the rest of NA.
I think we had an ear for quality music back then.
Nice to talk prog rock on MERB.
