There is always the initial machine purchase cost but the same as a car purchase, after X years it is yours with just a little maintainance.
Time for young kids to get into robotic repairs ( probably a different term ), programmers are everywhere.
As for trusting a robots decision, from what I have seen for sentences to some criminals I would love to see a robot judge. Probably would be better to see the min sentences go up a lot.
Kind of hard to bribe or threaten a robot judge or lawyer also.
You talk about software as if it was a tangible asset. This type of technology is not meant to be purchased, it is meant to be rented. (Software as a service). I can imagine having a software like salesforce.com (lawyerforce.com) Where I can ask a bunch of legal questions for 24.99 per month, compared to paying 200$ per hour.
Lawyers will then start to throw in the usual bull* we hear from people who have been phased out by machines "We can give you a customized service"
I wouldn't want to see robot judges, they would be merciless and way too technical.
