Around the corner
What's everyone's take on this?

Seems like Russia could invade Ukraine at any moment.
Russia has never invaded any country.
They simply come to the aid of countries as requested by their government to put down counter revolutionaries.
This is what happened in Poland, Hungary, Check Republic etc…
Russia is your friend and ally always looking to lend a helping hand. Then again you never know how soon Ukraine will ask for their help, 100,000 friendly fully armed troops are waiting eagerly to lend a helping hand. Putin is a neighbourly kind of guy after all like Khrushchev was.

The stock market sure believes that Russia will invade soon,,,, very soon.
The doomsday clock must be a fraction of a second to midnight.

Adding to the mess in Ukraine, you have China watching Putin very closely to see if he has his way .....so they can copy his tactic against Taiwan.
Israel ready to nuke Iran before it has a chance to build an A bomb ( less than a year away)
It`s hot out there and I`m not talking about climate change. Did I forget about covid ?

My guess is at least, after the Beijing Winter Olympics closing ceremony. Putin can afford to wait a week and appease his best friend, Xi Jinping.
why should he wait another week ? He can do it now. today's friend is tomorrow's enemy. Look at Vietnam : USA fight against Vietnamese communist, now they support them.
I don't believe the news on TV anymore. Use your own judgement instead. It's just propaganda.
Same thing: TVs broadcasting video showing civilians are bombed by Syrian government, end up the video is fake and fabricated !

Looks like Russian diplomats in Ukraine have left the country.

Ok, this is getting real.

As I said elsewhere, Putin is quietly waiting for the Olympics to end so that he can invade Ukraine, while Canada and the USA and the rest of the West gasp in horror, but don't lay a finger to help Ukraine militarily. My guess is that the "war", as it were, will be much like when Germany and the USSR invaded Poland in 1939. The Ukrainians, like the Poles, will fight back, but will go down pretty quickly and with heavy casualties. Here is a history refresher- The Poles managed to kill just over 17,000 of the invading Germans, and just under 2,000 Russians, but altogether, the civilian losses of Polish population amounted to about 150,000 to 200,000.

Here is a map showing the Russian troop placements. Note that the west (Poland) and southwest (Romania and Moldova) is not encircled so that refugees could pour through those borders:

So you believe that Russia is going to invade now? Or that Russia is not in an alliance with China?

I think the stock market is more worried about the interest hike which can happen on Monday

Agreed, Putin will do whatever is in his best interests. Right now, it’s in his best interests to stay in fellow dictator Xi Jinping’s good books by not disrupting the Beijing Winter Olympics & waiting for a week.

If Putin invades Ukraine, the US & its allies will try to sanction Russia back to the financial world’s equivalent of the stone ages. By then, China with its 1.4 Billion consumers (world’s 2nd largest economy) will be its economic lifeline. China has also entrapped many neutral countries in Asia & Africa with debt and basically owns them. Not to mention that China being one of the 5 permanent members of the UN Security Council, can veto UN resolutions. So China’s very useful to Putin.

Nonetheless, Putin’s a wily old fox and very proficient at yielding power. He might even be able to take parts of Ukraine by simply posturing. Ukraine’s comedian-turned-President keeps denying there is an imminent Russian invasion so maybe there’s a deal to be done.

What is now Ukraine was part of Russia for about 350 years. They separated just 31 years ago. Divorces are rarely amicable, especially with the intervention of third parties having their own interests. This happens often, but this is the first time when the major nuclear power is involved and it is scary

Not so fast tesla. If that was the case then 10 year Bonds would have been up and Gold down on Friday. The opposite happened and that was due to fear of imminent war in Europe.

Yep they are all brothers in arms!...with the same East Slav root language!
Russian Cossacks, Ukrainian Cossacks...WTF, a cossack is a cossack!
Everything got messed up and fragmented by the Communist Russian Revolution and WW II.
Otherwise it was all people living on one territory!

It is possible to look at this and say that Putin is merely a uniter of Eastern Slav groups and is just trying to go back to the pre- WWII "good ole days" of Cossack unity.

I think you guys are listening too much what they say on TV news, and you believe all these are real, not fabricated ?
Come on, you need to go behind the scene and find out who are pulling the strings here ?
I don't care much about: Democracy, Communism, dictatorship nor human right, nor republicans nor Democrats, etc...
To me the bottom line comes down to: Money $ and power, that's all.
Just ask yourself 2 questions:
-Who has the most advance technology in warfare ? and who is the biggest warfare seller in this world ?
We are talking about millions and billions of US dollars in arms trading here ! and who will benefit from it ?
If you can answer these 2 questions, then you will understand the situation here in Ukraine....
Did you ever watch the film "Wag the dog" ?
No need to give you the straight answer.... you already have it.
Cheers.
