Safety of Electronic Gift Cards

Hello guys,

Recently I got in touch with a Montreal based Indy provider whom I will be meeting for the first time. She asked for a deposit via e gift card to confirm the appointment. How safe is such a transaction? I'm reluctant since it may leave a electronic trail to my credit card.

I wouldn't be doing it personally unless she is EXTREMELY WELL KNOWN and reviewed and you are 100% sure she is legit. And still make sure its the real one as some top indies have been "copied" lately with fake profiles (not on merb but twitter etc)

As for the "trail" its up to you... Its not something i would worry myself but depend on your situation. The worrying part is to make sure you won't loose that money so thus why refer to point 1

Buy a prepaid visa vanilla card with cash, and buy the gift card with that card instead, no paper trail

buy the giftcard in a pharmacy and scratch the code. Pay in cash. Send the pic to her.

Both posts 3 & 4 are the only way I would do it. But even then, and this just happened to me, do I really want to go through all of the bullshit just to see this girl? At the end of the day I said no, The juice just wasn’t worth the squeeze.

I am not sure if you can get in trouble for money laundering. I guess you are in more danger in the USA.
