Here is an interview with Khashoggi's editor at the Washington Post (a rather young and quite attractive black woman, BTW) on her reaction to the Saudi "fistfight" explanation for his death. What's most interesting is she drops a bombshell that US intelligence knew there was an active plot to capture/kidnap Khashoggi, which suggests to me that he or the Washington Post may have been tipped that he was a target of an active plot and he undertook this Turkish trip at his own grave danger:

https://www.cnn.com/2018/10/20/opinions/saudi-arabia-khashoggi-statement-robertson-intl/index.html

Of course if that is true, there is likely nothing that could have been done to have prevented Khashoggi from eventually being killed. My opinion, he should have stayed in the USA, had the Turkish woman join him here and then elope with her, here. It's not like he would have been safe walking the streets in DC or anywhere, but at least he would have made harder this kind of strongman ambush.

Not really a bombshell, is it? The story that the US knew in advance came out within a week of the incident, I thought.

Also this: Asked whether he thought Saudi Arabia’s explanation for the death of Jamal Khashoggi was credible, President Trump said “I do. I do.”

At this point he might just be changing his story with each interview or who is asking the question. Or maybe he actually has been fairly consistent, and we are getting mixed up because of various reporting times.

As for singling out Trump, previous presidents had unsavory international relations with them - not personal payment deals to line their pockets.

Trump's critical statements about the Saudi statements on this matter is applying pressure on the Saudis that seems to be working. Every day we are getting more admissions. The "Rogue Operation" story now seems the de jour story of the day. I suspect that is the best the Saudis will do to admit that it was a "tremendous mistake":

You linked an article that points out Trump isn't making critical statements, everyone else is.

I was referring to this,

"In the Post article published late Saturday, Trump said that "obviously there's been deception and there's been lies," when asked about Saudi Arabia's account of the killing of Khashoggi inside their Istanbul consulate almost three weeks ago. "Their stories are all over the place," Trump said."

That's not strong criticism though. And it certainly isn't his criticism that is getting them to change the story. It is evidence from Turkey and pressure from the various news agencies and other international powers. Trump keeps agreeing with whatever the new story is. There isn't any pressure coming from Trump.

Please, EB.
Besides the fact that he calls everything the best or worst at all time, he is still criticizing the cover up being mishandled.
I do not argue he has not come around to criticizing them. I am pointing out that his criticism has followed evidence from other sources. The Saudi's have not been reacting to his criticism. They and Trump have followed opinion and evidence rendering previous stories no longer viable.

Regardless, like JFT2 says, the Saudi's mostly don't care, although they are still sensitive enough to international opinion that they have had to shift their story somewhat. But mostly this was a display of power to show they can get away with stuff like this. Now that there is a MagaBomber, it isn't going to stay in the news much longer. There's a new shiny bauble. (It is still getting press on AlJezeera and other middle eastern news sources of course.) Maybe when they find parts of his body there might be a small news burst, but that's about it.

All countries should do the same. We should send someone down to wipe out Trump, Kim Jong Il, Poutain, who else would be on the list?
