Silly me ! And I thought that liberals in the U.S. are truly 'liberals' on social issues. Guess not !. They only care about aborting fetuses, gay marriages, and taxing the bejesus out of anybody with a honest job.

Usual B.S. reasons why prostitution should be outlawed as stated by the R.I. politicians (mostly democrats):

'fighting slavery, child prostitution, drugs, etc. If they took the time to read the law books, they would have found out that there are already existing laws to fight these crimes.

BTW, if I was a resident of R.I., I would be more embarassed by the official name of my state State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations then by whores and john having consent sex.

Should be called the district of R.I.

The interest in changing the prostitution law in Rhodes Island occured before the Craigslist killer, but the Craigslist killer sped it up because one of the places he robbed a SP was in Rhodes Island. He alegedly murdered a woman in Massachusetts.

Rhodes Island politicians became very weary of the story, because every time the press would write the only place in the US that prostitution is legal is Nevada in select counties and Rhodes Island.

I imagine LE in R.I. will be very aggressive once the law is passed. Then after a few years, they will enforce it periodically like every other state in the US.

Prostitution in the US until 10 to 20 years ago was never aggressively pursued by most LE in the US. Until the sexual revolution in the 1960s, men would very rarely get sex outside of marriage. So if men, old and young, wanted to experiment, they would go to brothels. Brothels were very much in the open. There were hundreds of brothels alone in New York City prior to the 60s, which were visited by LE as customers. Even in the 70s and 80s, there were streetfront parlors which were open brothels.

Sometime in the 90s, LE around the US began targeting indoor prostitution.

It is ironic that the craigslist murder case brought attention to Rhodes Island's status. Prostitution was not really illegal, but just not illegal because of a loop-pole in the law. But the woman who got robbed by the craigslist killer was not afraid to contact LE. I bet you if it was illegal, she may have just not made the call to the police.

If you have ever been to RI, you will know why there is so much prostitution. There is exteme poverty there. The fishermen only work 5 months a year and anyone living live at a low standard of living. Lots of drugs there too. My guess is that the laws will be changed, but it will not be strenuously enforced.

Why would you be embarrassed about the official name "State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations"? According to Wikipedia and other encyclopedias: "Providence" referred to the divine providence and "plantations" referred to the British term for a colony (people leave one place and are "planted" in another). Thus, this name bore no relation to the later Southern and Caribbean Islands slave plantations. Later on, Providence Plantations and Rhode Island were merged to form the Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations.

I think what you intended to say in my bolded quote was "Anyone living life, it is at a low standard of living?" Way to paint the entire state with the same brush RP. Know your facts before posting complete bullshit. Of course there is poverty in some locales of RI,. but to say that the whole state lives at a low standard of living is complete blasphemy.

I have been to RI , things are not as good as they are in the neighbouring states like NY or NJ. Things are pretty crumby there, expecialy in the winter time where time almost stands still.

Governments don't care how bad it hurts those on the bottom rung. They will enforce their new law to show that they are doing something about it, and to boot they will target the men who they villify as the perpertrators. It is all a show to the media that Rhode Island is doing something about a perceived problem.

I have not been in Rhode Island for a long time. I cannot say how bad things are there, except Rhodes Island at 13.0 percent is currently ranked #49 out of 51 (including DC) in unemployment rate in the US, only ahead of Nevada 13.3 percent and Michigan 15.3 percent.

Poverty, unemployment, etc. got nothing to do with anything.

It is unfortunate that the Nazi Fanatic Feminists have taken over the democratic party in the US and control the social agenda of that party. They call all of us degenerate because we frequent prostitutes. Yet, for these lowlifes, abortion, gay sex, drug use, are perfectly morale.

These sluts are 1000 times worse than the jesus fanatics.

One word for them:

Thank God for Breast Cancer.

p.s. to poker: Plantations is tied to racism as slaves used to work in plantations back then.

US states didn't really criminalize prostitution until the early 1900s, around the same time as prohibition.

So I don't see how the Puritans, slavery, and colonial times have much to do with it.

Instead, I think it was more the result of post-Victorian-era zealots, who, imo, were opposed to a) immigrants, and b) inter-racial sex (white slavery)

Since these laws primarily affected those who were poor, illiterate, and mostly unable to vote, there wasn't much problem getting the necessary votes from the unaffected wealthy bourgeois.

Hmmmm,

You are quite a fascinating case study. Your rants against anti-prostitution feminist women seems to happily ignore the fact that your Conservative heros like Limbaugh et al would also call your pro-prostitution views "degenerate". You know all of their favorite tag lines of bile and hate, but ignore the fact they would see you as a degenerate Liberal for favoring prostitution. Possibly they would wish prostate cancer on you as you wish breast cancer on feminists. The fact that you are using their bile to attack those against prostitution would repulse your heros and puts YOU as far from your Conservative idols as any feminists. So how does it feel to be one of the "Liberals"...friend...lol. :p

So now, if I ask you why you think prostitution is a good thing, what will you do? Do you argue for it and prove yourself a Liberal, or do you just admit you can't get fine women on your own or just want to have fantasy and are just rationalizing using escorts. What a dilemma...tsk tsk tsk. :D

Hugs,

Merlot

Centaurus, did you know breast cancer can attack guys too?

Your "thanks God" is unacceptable. Cancer isn't a joke or something invoked lightly. That type of conduct is a step towards the banning door and your chance of this happening to you are way higher than anybody getting cancer.

Apologies WILL BE accepted.

Apologies to anybody on the board if, he / she felt offended.

My rant was exclusively directed towards the feminists who are trying to control my chosen lifestyle. I still wish them ill- just like they do to me.

p.s.: I am on a self imposed ban.

p.s. 2 to Merlot: RI is a heavily democratic / liberal state. Limbaugh / O'Reilly / Hannity have no sway whatsover in there.

I agree that the liberals are self-serving and pandering:

a) feminism ... for white females
b) sexual freedom ... for gays
c) worker's rights ... for unions

In other words, their high principles are only good for those who have the political and financial support.

With game like that, I can't understand why you even need prostitutes, you should have women lining up.

I am left wondering, what is wrong with gay sex, feminism, drug use and worker's rights, and where the proof is that such interest groups have taken over the democratic party in the U.S., Obama is protypically more conservative than Harper, and has made virtually no changes to the social agenda.

Indeed, the dire issue is with the republican party that has had several special interest groups insinuate themselves: the neo-cons, of course, and the 'jesus freaks' as our silver-tongued Centaurus has specified. They find themselves directionless, leaderless, and splintered.

Obama has made no change to the social agenda because he has not been able to. He has promised to the hilt. He needs the Congress to pass laws before he can sign anything.

He has tried to institute his government run healthcare, but the citizens of the US have heard too many bad stories about UK and Canada. Plus, you cannot cut Medicare $500 Billion with the baby boomers entering the arena and not ration the care. There has been opposition to it and some Democrati congressman and Sentators in more districts and state are relunctant to vote for it.

He has been pusing Cap and Trade. Same result.

He has promised to end Don't ask, Don't tell for gay soliders and upper rank have been advising against it. But he will push anyhow. He can do that on his own.

He and Congress will let the Bush tax cuts go. During a recession or the end of it, with unemployment still so high and rising, it could have a devastating effect. Much more unemployment.

Indeed, the dire issue is with the republican party that has had several special interest groups insinuate themselves: the neo-cons, of course, and the 'jesus freaks' as our silver-tongued Centaurus has specified. They find themselves directionless, leaderless, and splintered

Yes the Republicans are fractionalized, but that may be changing. There is a good number of Conservatives who want small governent, low tax rates, and who are alarmed at the high deficits. That's why the Tea parties have been proping up all over the place with good attendence. Hopefully these groups will make it their main agenda and get rid of the bs.
