Seeking Research Participants
THE MANAGEMENT PROJECT
Rethinking Management in the Adult and Sex Industry

Do you have experience organizing, supervising, managing, or coordinating people
working in the adult and sex industry?

Are you interested in discussing your experience?

Do you want to participate in a study that will help people understand the work
you do or did?

Would you be able to take part in a 2hr interview?
Note: Involvement should be as recent as 2000

The research will :
Document the experiences of management in strip-club venues, street sex work,
massage parlours and in and out-call establishments from the manager's
perspective
Explore the relationships between managers and sex workers, as well as other
people involved in the running of the business (receptionists, drivers, agents,
etc).

Examine myths around sex work management
Identify how laws and policies influence your management work and its impacts on
your work relationships

Research conducted by:
Chris Bruckert, Patrice Corriveau, Colette Parent and Jenn Clamen (UO); Lesley
Jeffery (UNB, Saint John); Maria Nengeh Mensah (UQAM)

Okay, I have to admit that I had a smartass offer to be involved in a research study, but seriously what is in it for the interviewees? While sometimes necessary, researchers are probably one of the most devious groups of people you will ever come across. Presumably for fear of affecting the outcome of a study, they will contort and twist their true motives. If you want to be deceived, manipulated and treated like a chimp here is your chance.

As long as living off the avails is illegal, I can't imagine there would be many takers. Perhaps the researchers should just start hiring SPs and making their way to the GTs, where perhaps they could chat-up some of the bosses. Even if they don't get to rub elbows with the people behind the scenes who facilitate the transactions, they'll learn enough from the SPs themselves to answer most of their questions. I've learned all sorts of things from SPs about the business, and I'm just a nosey pervert with no PhD after my name.

If the researchers want a complete picture of how SPs are managed and supervised, they need to interview some clients too. I know I've managed and supervised quite a few escorts. A few have even referred to me as "the boss" (seriously).

I personally know two of the researchers. This is a serious honest study. While as researchers will do their best to be neutral, their bias, if any would be in favour of sex work. I would have never forwarded the info if there was any danger to the interviewees.

As for interviewing clients, I would suspect that is simply not within the scope of this particular study.

For more info I recommend contacting one (or more) of the researchers directly. They are all fluent in English and most also speak French I believe.

In other words, you are hoping that pimps donate time for a research project. I don't know any personally, but what are the chances of finding one who has time to spare, is a philanthropist and regards the advancement of science as a worthy cause?

Keep us posted if you get any takers. I'm not being sarcastic in wishing you good luck.

I already know of some agency owners who have been interviewed....

It is these research projects that are currently being used to challenge the current sex work laws. So yes it is in their best interest to be properly represented.
