They will probably be a lot more lenient though. Knowing that you will get your trial postponed til next December. Costs a lot of money to prosecute .

This means that new laws can be passed to allow the LE to trap John's ( Hobbyist's ) its a win at the moment but wait for the Pendulum to swing back there will be some repercussions for sure. Hopefully SP's will have safer environment's to work under. Any thing that makes life safer for SP's is welcome.

they will probably request for a licence... and for sure put some taxes on their work... also what about incall agencies... probably the same...taxes and so much more...,

Quebec will go for that for sure anything to Generate Tax Revenue. When they introduced the Legislation for Winter Tires the item which swung the debate and bought in the Legislation was not the safety aspect but the Tax Revenue it would and does generate for the Province. Expect the tax on Condoms to go up

Today is a great day for Canada, to all jealous, conservative, controlling people who like to preach to others how people should live their lives, a big F-YOU!!!!.

Best quote that I read today from another board after the ruling came down.

"Get this Judeo-Christian-Islamic culture out of our hearts, minds and bedrooms. This legislation has never existed for any purpose than to elevate those with pretentious religiosity above anyone living in the real world. These are the only true prostitutes and illegitimates!"

Isn't it great to be living in such an advanced society(Canada), today I became more proud of my country.:thumb:

this is the next logical choice. hopefully, it'll be what they'll be doing but i'm still skeptical about the government/politicians. they tend to stick their head so far up their asses that we just don't know

Let's see...

It might be a good thing cause the economy is low and the fact that the prostitution have been discriminalized they will be able to fix things better with all those taxes and other Revenue..

Fees for licenses is one thing.

But as you know it is aways difficult to get a true accounting of "Cash Only" businesses if they want to try and hide part of their real income.

Nobody would ever cheat on their taxes. Would they? ;)

PLEASE!

This is a historical day for sex workers in Canada, and if you want my opinion, a landmark decision that will have an impact way beyond our boarders.

It's a day for celebrations! Could we please stay upbeat, just the moment of a thread, and take the opportunity to throw in our best wishes?

I read somewhere that the stiff fines for Johns in Sweden are only meted out to those who knowingly use under-aged or trafficked girls. Can anyone confirm? what exactly is "le modele de la suede" ?

This is a great decision for protection of workers, whether they are engaged in sex work or other professions, which every adult should be able to pursue without fear for their personal safety, health and earnings. If the government imposes income taxes then they better provide health, police and judicial services to the workers (and consumer protection for the clients). Viva Canada!

A Red Light District in every major Canadian city? Or what about a club scene such as the Fkk clubs in Germany but closer to home? If you can cut out 'the cut' of the agency and the driver, the girls can charge more and it would still be less than the going rate. The way the club scene works in Germany is everybody is a "guest" and has to pay entrance to the club, imagine a club in Canada where for one payment to enter you'd have free drinks, food, access to the facilities such as outdoor and indoor pools, sauna's etc along with private rooms. The club owners provided security to keep everyone safe. Girls don't have to wait in cars for a call to come in or a long drive out of town, everything under one roof.

Punter7, check this link it give explanation on how it work in Sweden.

That said, I'm really happy by the judgment. It is a giant step foward for the workers, but if Harper goes in that direction, it wont have change anything for "us" buyers....

I guess Swedish parliament is dominated by those neo-Puritan fanatics who believe every sex worker is a victim of exploitation. I found on a wiki page that Finland has a better model: "A milder form of the policy is in effect in Finland, where buying of sexual services from prostitutes becomes illegal if it is linked to human trafficking, and is punishable by fines or up to 6 months jail." Maybe we can direct Harper's attention to Finland instead of Sweden; remember Saku Koivu was a better role model than Mats Naslund or Doug Murray-- and Harper is a hockey fan.
