I was over at the Burger King on St. Laurent and Cremazie this afternoon. Again there was an attemp to short change me at this place. The 2 scams they run are to give you back the wrong change. Example ; You buy a meal for $4.89 and give her a $20, you get $4.89 in change back instead of $15.11 When you catch them doing this they say, Oh, i am sorry, my mistake. The other scam is when you buy a meal for $4.89 and hand her a $20, she will ask you if you have a lot of change in your pocket, if you do and try to help her out by paying with the change. She does the old switcheroo and switches your $20 and returns your to you a $10 bill.
I would not annouce this if this had not happened several times before, and I have also noticed her doing this to other customers. I just do not believe that Burger King would not take precautions to make sure that their cash is full of coins to make change at the lunch hour.
Watch out for the little Indian ( from india ) lady. Shis is about 4 ft tall. with glasses. I had a friend check it out in line ahead of me. Sure enough, she pulled the scam on him.

How can you eat at Burger King anyways? I would eat doggie chow before one of their microwave burgers. The best fast food place, at least for getting the proper change back, is Wendy's. The cash register automatically pumps out the correct change by itself. I always wondered why those systems weren't in more places?

So you would return or patronize SPs that do not treat customers fairly or provide services as agreed upon or overcount or short you on minutes? Also you would not post negative experiences on the board.

I understand why the seminal post was made - it informed the readers but then a boycott targeting the profitability of the outlet would be the most effective action.

Life's too short. Bring your business elsewhere if you must. We're talking about petty cash here and client's negligence to count their change. Hardly a scam.

Why return?

Yes, there are a lot of other places around. I choose not to be chased out of a place just because the person behind the counter is dishonest. While these scams were pulled on me, I was smart enough not to be cheated. It is the amazing brazen dishonesty that amazes me. I am just warning others and if you are so inclined to see for yourself you may check it out for yourself as a friend of mine did.
I mentioned that she is near 4 ft. tall so that you will know to whom I am refering to, there are not many people that are of that height. It is not about the small change, but the fact that you may get cheated in such a bold manner.
I grab a quick bit every day all over the city, on some days there is no timeto get to a good souvlaki place or other Chinese food places I regulary frequent. My intent is not to cause a boycot of this place, it was to vent my amazment that this sort of thing happens at all. I can only conclude that the vast majority of people do not even look at their change when it comes to purchasing small items.

Scams I

There are many other scams out there, some less obvious that others.

The 2 for 1 offer made by certain restaurants (not the pizza places) is a prime example. Take the 2 for 1 special and you will get roughly 1/2 of what you would get at the regular price.

The depanneurs that offer photocopying like to pull the following.List the cost of a photocopy at $0.08 plus GST/PST which comes out to $0.09116
so they round it off to $0.10 for one copy as per law. Make multiple copies and the charge you times $0.10.Example 10 copies they charge you $1.00 when it should be 10 x 0.08 = $0.80 + GST/PST = $0.9116 or $0.92 cents. You get overcharged by $0.08 effectively paying 25% GST/PST instead of 13.95%.

Doctors.You go for a check-up and you need a form signed.This may be very easily handled on one trip or a single click of the medicare card. Some will tell you to come back later for the form and a second click of the medicare card.

Soup sold by the cup or bowl.Same amount of soup at different prices.

Call me lazy, but I would rather count on the clerk being honest than making sure the nickles and pennies and dimes and quarters and loonies and toonies add up to the exact right amount. I glance at the toonies and loonies, but don't stop and count it all and hold up the line in so doing. When some little rip-off artist does a number on me (I might realize it later) I really resent it, not because of the money, but because the lesson is: I / others have to distrust people or get taken.

Another scam I've noticed twice at different gas stations is when you pull up to the gas pump and ask for twenty dollars worth (fourty now-a-days) the attendant only puts $18 or $19 in, but takes your twenty dollar bill as if that is what he put in, and doesn't give you change.

I was at the Burger King earier this week. The little Indian lady that tried to short change me got real upset whan she saw me. It looked like she shit in her pants and at the same time and heard that VHROOOOOoooooooooWhrooooooooooohhhHHHHWhrroooooooooooohhhhhhhWhroooohhhhhhhh sound that is in the Rolling Stones song HERE COMES YOUR 19th. NEROUS BREAK DOWN. She freaked out and ran back and forth behind the counter and then she asked a younger girl to take over for her as she pretended to have a coughing fitt! Later she cam back, and was real nervous behind the counter.
I can only guess that one or more of you guys went over there and then let her try to pull the SWITCHEROO and then caught her in the act, or the news got back to BOOGER KINGS management that she was a short changer. I am not sure what exactly happened, but I suspect some of you jokers had a hand in this.

I went in last week and handed her a note which read as follows:

Dear short Indian lady,

I know you are short changing customers intentionally. This is your first and final warning. We are watching you... One more slip-up and we will fire you and sue you for damages. If you steal any more money from our customers you will never work at any fast food place in this town ever again.

What do you think this is? Wendy's?

I don't eat at any of those places anyway... When the average staff age is 16 (with one manager around 35) you know that A LOT of "special secret sauce" is being spread around the kitchen daily, whether you piss someone off or not... I would only eat that crap if there's nothing else and I can't hold out... My one exception is the chocolate milkshake at McDonald's... It's so tasty -- and you can at least watch them prepare it right in front of you...
