Smoking/nonsmoking rooms...are smoking rooms pretty much gone?

I am about to book for a trip, and remember a problem I had last year...I think it was at the IC (how short our memories grow; I can sure remember the three women I saw there). I am a lifelong nonsmoker and hate cigarette smoke, but when I go to MTL for hobbying I have booked smoking rooms simply because if a girl is a smoker I don't want to get declining service because they are dying for a smoke halfway through the session. I try to book nonsmokers, but sometimes a girl is too hot to pass up, or "nonsmokers" wind up being closet smokers.

So I got to the IC and was sent to my smoking room...and found two single beds! This would be a totally unacceptable situation for three people, so I went to the lobby and reminded them I wanted a smoking room, and they said they only had a couple and that the only one they had was equipped with two single beds.

Is this now a normal situation when it comes to hotel rooms that allow smoking...that there are only a few in each hotel?

Another thread was started on this topic a few years ago and as I recall some hotels are reported to charge you if you allow a girl to smoke in a non-smoking room. I permitted this once in my years of hobbying, at the Intercontinental. The lady was stressed out due to having had a bad day and asked to smoke. I took a chance. I was not charged. I heard that some hotels will charge you if they detect the smoking odor in the room designated for non smokers.

What I had the lady do was smoke in the bathroom where there is a fan.

As to how many non-smoking rooms there are generally, I don't know the answer to this. I used to get stuck in smoking rooms or a smoking floor all the time. Allowing smoking seems to be a dying practice.

Tx, EB..I hate it, but like I say it beats heck out of having the girl try to run out early or lose interest in anything but a cigarette. I once had a girl ask to sneak one in the bathroom at the IC. This kind of irked me because she was advertised as a nonsmoker, and I didn't want extra charges on the room...not to mention that i didn't want to smell it on her for the second hour.

I think what this guy is saying is that in Quebec, when you rent a room, it becomes your home legally, and then you have the right to smoke in a hotel room. I don't think the hotels see it the same way.

It irked me too......but she looked frazzled and looked like she needed a cigarette. Anyway, I got away with it, by letting her smoke in the bathroom and then I ran the fan the whole night to dissipate the smoke. I probably would not push my luck doing it again. I usually do not book girls who smoke.

A couple of years ago i was with Kelly Summer at the HDLM and had a non-smoking room. When she asked if she could smoke, i told her she could smoke on the balcony. So we went over there with our glasses of wine & the next thing you know, i got a great right there on the balcony once she was done with her cigarette. I love balconies!

Bumfie, as I said there was another thread on this topic. About a few years ago. And there were reports that certain hotels that will charge for this behavior. And I also believe Bucky is wrong. I think the Omni was reported as being a vigilant hotel that will charge for smoking in their rooms.

I recall one other incident when I allowed a lady to smoke at my room at the Omni. I asked her to crack the window and hold the cigarette outside the window and blow smoke out the window. This can be done in the Omni. I was not charged.

I would also note that the Delta President Kennedy and Holiday Inn Select both have rooms with balconies where smoking can happen on the balcony.

In Ottawa, it seems all the new hotels being built or older hotels being renovated have a non-smoking policy. They want to preserve the
newness by not stinking up the place. Often, I see notices in the rooms stating that if housekeeping detects smoking has occurred, a charge
of $300 will be added to the bill. I know someone who got dinged after getting too lazy to keep going downstairs, so he thought he'd try smoking in the bathroom with the fan on. Problem was, the bathroom was right beside the door and the smoke smell lingered into the hallway and someone complained.

There are still some older hotels around which still have limited smoking rooms or floors (e.g. Extendistay on Cooper Street in Ottawa),
but they're getting harder and harder to find.

My friends who frequent motels (especially older ones) both the Ontario and Quebec side here in Ottawa-Gatineau tell me they can still get a smoking room.

The bottom line seems to be unless you want an older style room or a real dump, you need to book a hotel room that has a balcony, otherwise you're
out of luck. I believe that would apply to just about everywhere now days.

If you run the fan and run the shower at a hot temperature, the smoke will dissipate even more. I have done what EB has done. The girl stayed a couple of hours and was complaining so much about having to smoke. So I ran the shower at a hot temperature and put the fan on. I kept the shower on for a few hours. I did not detect any smoke smell next morning.

When I have a balcony, I allow them to go out and smoke. The hotels make it clear that a hefty fine will be charged if they detect smoking.
