Let me suggest that there be a scale for "gifts" for escorts etc according to where you have a Driver's Licence/ ID from. Reason being U.S tourists get all the provincial tax back on departing Canada on all "purchases". Let me suggest a scale for payment like for example:Ontario/Quebec residents: 100; Anywhere else in Canada :120;U.S residents:150. It's only fair since Canadians don't get anything back from U.S when they depart U.S for Canada.

Remind me to get a receipt from Celine or Martin next time I see one of their ladies. I'm sure the border patrol would be quite happy when I give them receipts for SP's I see on each trip.
Hey, jokes aside,you did not understand my point of course.You do not declare anything of this sort at the border when leaving Canada. You make the "extra" gift to the SP since they are nice enough to provide a service to Americans who get most everything else back(provincial tax) which we Canadians do not when leaving U.S and coming back to Canada.

There is no point because the analysis is incorrect. There is no refund of taxes upon leaving Canada. If you get anything at all (questionable), you have to mail a refund application and it applies only to purchase of hotels and goods (not services) over $200. There is no tax refund for payments made to an SP. So there is no point to the post.
If you go to Canada, book hotel by Priceline, and spend less than $200 on goods which is probably the case for most American hobbyists, there is no refund of any kind. Most Americans buy stuff at the duty free shop at the border so they don't have to go through the refund application hassle.

I think that he meant that americans saved alot on hotels/restaurants/food during their journey, money that he, being from Ottawa, did not save. That would be what, 15%.
I bet that by reading EB reply, he'll delete this tread, he must have misjudge the amount of money someone from a foreign country can save ... compared to a canadian.

Did I miss something and in the affirmative, how far back can we go to claim a refund!
In may places, taxes might have been built in and you don't realize you are indeed paying them.

My mistake, there are 2 topics here.Refund which americans get when leaving canada and not vice versa. Forget about the extra gifts to SPs, but I meant is that they deserve a bit extra when people travel across an international border to get services that are not available in U.S.Cheap pharmacies is another topic in the same genre.Canadians provide a service here providing quality cheap pharmaceuticals and some are jealous in U.S that we are making a few dollars through out enterpreneaurial skills. Softwood lumber is another. We are one tenth the size of U.S, biggest trading partner and are treated like crap when it comes to business practices. I would call it cut-throat business practices.

By the way, about softwood lumber, US administration lost before freetrade court and OMC four times in a row so far, and they continue to apply penalties to canadian's softwood. I work for the wood industry and we still suffer of that situaton... but what's the link with Azzaro's point. He's still nebulous.

thank you smackappeal and stripperlover for understanding my post. Everybody thinks I was just joking around with my SP rate scale suggestion. A big No to that. It was a light hearted attempt to bring out a point that I am sure is on everbody's mind about unfair business practices by U.S towards Canada.Americans travel by the busloads too to get cheap prescriptions filled out here in border towns.Softwood lumber dispute is well, as wakeman pointed out, far from over and of course huge differences in how sexuality is viewed between U.S and Canada ( due to the puritan descents etc.).If we have something that U.S wants then they should go to some extra effort to get it and that includes a little higher escort rates for them.Cheers
