Anyone have advice on how to get a reduction in points and fines when going to court,and has anyone used these lawyers who fight these tickets and try to sell you different packages

I'm using a lawyer in the east end my friend refered me to.
I'm fighting an excessive speeding ticket of 6 points and another one of 2 points.
Paid $50 to open file and I pay $100 per point saved. If they can save me all 8 points I will gladly pay the $800!

I wish you both good luck but your chances of reducing the points are not good.
Protocol now dictates that after each and every ticket the officer must run the radar gun (assuming that's how you were caught) through a self-diagnosis that will print out the machines results concerning the calibration of it. It will be used in court to prove that the radar gun was functioning properly at the moment you were targeted. Each gun also has a diagnostic result printed out before each officer starts his shift. The judge in your case will rely heavily on those results. My experience tells me you have a better chance of lowering the actual fine instead of the points. Usually just asking for a lower fine to help since you are in financial difficulties (true or not) is enough to get the judge to bite, I've had this happen to me a few times.
Cops have become so adept at fighting these tickets they also take notes of who was in the car when you were pulled over, where in the car they were sitting, what they were wearing (at least color wise) and so on.
I've gone though this a few times these last few years trying to save myself from losing my driver's license. So far I've been successful in postponing court cases enough to have my lost points from previous tickets refunded.

The point of these specialized lawyers is never GOING To court. In the end all the city really cares about is the revenue. They want people to get ticketed and pay the fine and keep getting ticketed.
Most of these lawyers never set foot in court and settle for a lower fine outside of court.

You do realize the speed limits were set a LOOOOooong time ago when cars were not as safe to drive at current speeds. Technology has improved. Braking , cornering, stability at higher speeds etc... Yet our speed limits have not....
I agree that driving an old car from the 70's at 100kmph is scary and dangerous. It can not swerve to avoid anything AND it can't brake for shit.
Not the case for today's cars.
Why is the speed limit of the service road along the 440 in Laval at a reasonable 70 and the service road of the 40 in the west island at a paltry 50?? Easy... The cops can make more revenue and slow down all those dangerous spreaders fr hitting the multitude of people crossing the 40 service road (hmmmmm haven't seen one yet) lol
And by the way my tickets have never been speeding in a residential zone. Most are on stupid service roads or highway off or onramps where they know you will be quicker.
The best example is that the speed limit on US interstates before 1973 were almost all at 75mph (121km per hr) then with the gas crunch every Interstate was reduced to 55 mph and there was NO change in road fatalities.!!!
This is the first ticket I got in 5 years the one before was also speeding,I drive a car that you do not really feel the speed you are driving at,I am not making excuses but I agree with Ladylover and alot of these places are just speed traps,example 40km on a blvd.
Ahahaaaa... This has to be one of the most amusing posts I've seen in a while. There will be more people in jail than out if jail. The Bridge to Vaidreuil alone gives out approximately 400 tickets per month and there is a warning that it's there.
You my friend must be perfect right... Never go above the speed limit by 1km , no American stops and you actually stop for 3 seconds etc...
Move aside criminals in jail we need to make space for the big bad traffic violators!!!

I have seen lawyers used in traffic court, many times the lawyer shows up without the client and the judge dismisses the case out of courtesy to the lawyer. ( because the client has paid $800 to the lawyer to show up. )
If you try to get off and are found guilty I think there are also extra court costs added to your fine. My son just got off a failing to stop at a 4 way but he proved doubt on the officer charging him ( officer was beside a hedge and line of vision past 3 feet of stop was not visible ). Speeding is tough to beat.
I believe there are some ex-cops that specialize in getting people off tickets.

I speed, I don't get tickets. I keep it reasonable. If you are getting to the point where points are a problem, you are probably a danger on the road.

I got a parking ticket once, for parking in a legal space in the morning with a time set that then made it illegal. I wasn't 5 minutes late and the ticket was there. Montreal's "finest" are very fast. I contested it by mail and got hit with court costs as a bonus.
This is easily explained. I got my drivers license not too long after speeds were set to 55 mph. I drove around the middle and upper 60s mph and was passed by other cars frequently. No one obeyed the law and the cops rarely stopped anyone who wasn't doing 70 mph or better. It was well known, stay under 70-75 and you're fine. So there was no change in fatalities because people drove just like before.
It also depends on which state you drive in on the highways. In the South and west of the Mississippi there's a lot more open space and a more permissive attitude. I drove in Arizona on twisting mountain roads with no side barriers near Sedona and most cars were going around 80 mph. No cops. It was nuts. In the Northeast and parts of the Midwest while passing by suburbs and urban areas don't get excessive or you could easily get singled out.

If you stay within 10-20 percent of the limit you likely won't get stopped unless it is a real slow day. The amount of the ticket is not worth their time. Above 20% you deserve the ticket. While highways & cars may be designed for higher speeds...you do not drive alone and end up being a hazard.
In residential areas the limit is generally 40 or 50. More than 10% is hazardous with cyclists, pedestrians and kids and you deserve a ticket.
