STRANGE ZOO PARKING ATTENDANT MAKES OFF WITH MILLIONS!

From The London Times:

A Well-Planned Retirement

Outside England 's Bristol Zoo there is a parking lot for 150 cars and 8 buses. For 25 years, its parking fees were managed by a very pleasant attendant. The fees were £1 for cars ($1..40), £5 for busses (about $7).

Then, one day, after 25 solid years of never missing a day of work, he just didn't show up; so the Zoo Management called the City Council and asked it to send them another parking agent.

The Council did some research and replied that the parking lot was the Zoo's own responsibility.

The Zoo advised the Council that the attendant was a City employee.

The City Council responded that the lot attendant had never been on the City payroll.

Meanwhile, sitting in his villa somewhere on the coast of Spain (or some such scenario), is a man who'd apparently had a ticket machine installed completely on his own; and then had simply begun to show up every day, commencing to collect and keep the parking fees, estimated at about $560 per day -- for 25 years.

Assuming 7 days a week, this amounts to just over $7 million dollars!

......

And no one even knows his name!

That's England all right !

They are giving away millions to their 'head of state' without really knowing why and no one's asked what the f* sh'e working on to get all this money ?

So they'll keep on doing it long after everybody will have stopped all over the world ! :D

Citing the London Times - a reputable newspaper is clever. It adds credibility. But note that there's no actual publication date given, and the paper's name is actually "The Times" of London.

I think the other appeal of the yarn is that we'd all like it to be true.

IMHO ? Who cares if it true or false ?

Chances are something like that happened anyway somewhere and I wouldn't be surprised !

I don't care how much we could think we're gullible or not and who will think himself as smart ass for believing or not anything stupid outhere...

Including Madof and Lacroix for instance.

And that's forgetting all about the OJ Simpson trial, the suposedly Weapons of mass destruction, etc...

We're 'governed' by some clowns in politics who (almost all of them) thinks that the only truth is the one apparent.

Oh ! sh*t !!! J'viens d'faire une montee de lait pour moins ! Burp !:D

Hee-hee ... oh, definitely.

I used to live in a frat house in Syracuse that was a corner house on our block and it had a parking lot around it.

The lot was actually university property & the guys who had cars had to have permits to park out back as did anyone else who used the parking lot.

But on days when there was a home game at The Dome (football or B-ball) parking was at a premium anywhere in the vacinity of campus.

So drivers were always on the lookout for a bargain.

And we had a few brothers who were more than willing to help out in that respect.

Invariably a few of our characters would make up signs in the morning advertising parking at extremely affordable rates and then when game time got near they would stand by the parking lot entrance on the main street and wave people in.

For a nominal charge a motorist was offered a seemingly convenient parking space in a lot not far from campus and very near the bars & restaurants that are popular after the game.

What a deal!

Or so they thought.

Without the proper permit the cars were routinely ticketed.

Anyone who complained didn't have much of a fight because the signs at the lot clearly state "Permit Only".

But nobody reads them when they're in a hurry to get to the game and of course there were these very friendly & helpful parking attendants ushering them in & collecting their money. What could possibly be wrong with that? :D

How do you scrounge up beer money for game day on a college student's budget?

Be creative. ;)
