well, since he wasn't in the team's plans for a while, even with players like Lang, Tanguay and Latendresse on the injury list he was kept out of thelineup in favor of players lise Stewart, Chipchura,Dandeneau etc. Begin always gave his best to the team, a hardworking guy, a true team player and if you're to not play a guy like this, the only fair thing to do is give a chance to play elsewhere.

Some unknown defenseman. Maybe he's the next Josh Georges. Who knew him he got in montreal?

still it's sad we are trading Bégin when the team clearly misses leadership, team work and hardworking guys...

Ok, Janik played 13 games and got 1 assist... And yup, he's going straight to Hamilton which means any other team can claim him on waivers until Saturday afternoon.
Begin, with his limited talent, has always been a warrior even if he was often injured. This is probably a sign of respect from Gainey who is giving him the chance to play somewhere else. It's the right thing to do IMHO.

Personnally, I liked Begin, but I'd rather see younger guys like Stewart get some ice time and experience.

I hear that Janik is more a robust player than an "artist" so if it the case, he is probably here to replace Laraque...when Gainey trade him to free some money.
Gainey is preparing the table to bring a good (mean expensive) player to Montreal...

Sorry to see Begin go, he had a big heart and lots of explosiveness.

When I heard he was traded to Dallas I was hoping to hear we would get

Robidas in returns but I have faith in Gainey that this was the right thing to

do for the habs right now.

Hopefully this wont be the only trade made

Dandeneault is next. My guess is he'll probably be part of a bigger deal.

TSN.CA
2.26/2009

Sources say Montreal Canadiens defenseman Mathieu Dandeneault may be the next to go.

The 33-year-old has politely informed Canadiens general manager Bob Gainey he would like to be moved and according to source, Gainey has agreed to help him out.

Dandeneault is in the final year of a three year contract that pays him 1.75 million per season and depending on the return, moving him could help Montreal create cap space for any additional trades made up to the March 4th trade deadline.

Number one, Laracque has a no-trade contract. Number two, who the hell would want a player like him for the playoff run at the kind of money he's making? He would be useless for a playoff run (he's a liability on the ice & barely plays anyway) and you wouldn't see him dressed during the whole playoffs.

Laracque is in Mtl & he'll stay in Mtl. Live by your mistakes, die by your mistakes.

Yup he is next, sources say that he meet up with gainey and asked to be traded. but this trade will be more interesting. they say it will be a part of a multi-player trade. very interested in the out come. really happy for steve, at least he'll get the play time and give a lot to a team for there playoff run. as for dandeneault clearing a $1.75m contract is good for montreal but i get really nervous at this time of year cause we always get jack shit in return.......wake up gainey and bring in some power forwards and ease up in the defence.....

my 2 cents

what i dont understand, last year we lacked the toughness. we finally get a tough guy and he's not being played and pay him $1.5m...we cant depend on kostopoulos to always defend the team. poor guy had 6 fights and lost them all but give him credit, guy has heart. i think laracque should get more time on the ice, if not ice time then games played. what he did, i don't agree with, there's always other ways to settle an issue and it's NOT speaking to reporter's......

Metropolit!!! dude, I didn't even know until I read your post! In my opinion, Gainey is more looking for a first class defenseman like Pronger or Boumeester than a power forward. I don't necessarily think the GM has stopped looking for an 'impact' player, but prepare to let go Koivu, Higgy and maybe more players...

Can you picture Pronger in Mtl?? I know I can!

yes i can picture pronger in montreal but it will never happen. we lack offence and i have a big feeling, like every years goes by that there will be no changes. i do agree with you about higgy and koivu going but there also talking about PK Subban. i really don't wanna loose this kid PK. and as far as defence, forget about it. they aleady got doug janik...did i just say that....who the hell is this guy....lmao tipical montreal move....lol

yeah...it reminds me of last year when we got rid of Huet. We got litterally NOTHING for it.

But seriously, what forward (center) of interest is available right now?? Jokinen and...thats it??

Not many... Jokinen, maybe Antropov, Tkachuk, Ryan Smith (but he has a no-trade clause). Bill Guerin waived his no-trade clause today.
