I doubt a Canadian team will ever participate in the 'winter classic'. My gut-feeling tells me that the NHL wants two American teams in the classic game in order to attract fans south of the border.

I also doubt the Leafs would ever be one of the teams included as long as Brian Burke is the team's GM. He's always insisted he'd never allow the HBO cameras follow one of his teams. As we know, the HBO series 24/7 and the Winter Classic now go hand-in-hand.

Bryzgalov and Bob: Flyers tending issues still unresolved

did anyone else see this coming? i'm sure 75% of the population felt bryzy was the ans to Philly's goaltending problems. unfortuately people didnt notice how much protection Ilya was getting behind Tippet's defensive system in Phoenix until the ink was dry on Bryzgalov's fat longterm contract.

and Bob, left with inconsistent minutes to try to develop his growing/maturing game.

this is how you kill a kid's career (Bob) and shoot yourself in the foot as an organization locking up a player to a big longterm contract. seems GMs refuse to learn from Dipietro, Gomez, Vanek, Carter, and maybe even Crosby's contracts... there's no guarantee a player will live up to the value they've signed for because a) their attitude changes (Gomez) and or b) they sustain a career threatening injury that limits their ability to produce hi-end results (Dipietro/likely Crosby).

If Bryzgalov can't turn it around by the play-offs you gotta wonder if Paul H gets his plug pulled at the end of the season.

Maybe the Flyers can trade Bryzgalov to the Habs for Gomez & Cammalleri. To entice them a bit, throw in Brayden Schenn in the package & tell the Habs to throw in Louis Leblanc. ;)

Pete Gauthier apologized for the coaching language issue recently... i'm wondering why this is such a big issue considering montreal media + fans should just focus on the team's performance, which still stinks and makes me feel like i'm watching leafs games.

u gotta wonder if, in a fantasy world like the one we have on merb, the habs had the legendary soviet coach viktor tikhonov behind the bench during a losing streak/season if there'd still be comments about his language skills?

...

regardless, language isn't the issue here... a shitty defense is the bug. plain n simple.
bring is bob hartley, a couple of guys like roman polak and doug murray and you've got a top 5 team again. com'on pete, go trade for them, or even ian cole!

lol... at this pt, why not...

actually, MTL would come out a winner by shedding cap and 2 headaches. honestly, i'd move leblanc if he could bring in an established nhler... leblanc's style in the nhl will lead to a few concussions and back issues.

Montreal is located in a province where french separatists have a very loud voice both in the government & within the media. It's only normal that they've made a big fuss over the fact the head coach of the only true professional sports team in the province doesn't speak french.

Let's face it: most of those separatists that are complaining about Cunneyworth don't really care about how good the Habs play. All they care about is their own selfish agenda.

p.s. It appears that both Geoff Molson & Pierre Gauthier have taken the bait & fallen in the trap the separatists have put out for them.

Seriously, if i were the habs GM, i'd make this trade in a second!

You get rid of two big contracts (and headaches, as you put it), and you gain a young player with much more upside in Brayden Schenn. You then can shop around Carey Price & get a huge return for him.

I just happened to check the league's statistics & to my great surprise, the Habs are now at the basement for the powerplay. When Tomas Kaberle was obtained in order to help the powerplay, the Habs were in the 28th position. Now, they're in 30th place. What can you take out of this? Another wasted transaction on a big useless contract!

The Leafs are back in the 3rd position after last night's destruction of the Tampa Bay Lightning. To my great surprise, the lowly Edmonton Oilers hold the 2nd spot, just slightly ahead of the Leafs.

yep, geoff + pete got bagged and tagged. just plain dumb move to acknowledge the language chatter about their coach. i would can pete for that move alone!
p.s. on a political note... can we get some roads + highways fixed now that the province is 95% francophone... where's the utopia that was promised ... driving into mtl from the airport, the city looks worse than the bronx in the 70's

did someone punch Lars Eller in the face at practice or something... guy scored 4 goals tonight and MTL topped the Jets 7-4.

that's impressive against what seems to be a surging winnipeg team, though the jets have had issues winning away from home but who cares. it's a nice win for MTL.

People shouldn't get too excited about Lars Eller's performance last night. The last Hab to score 4 goals in a game was the long-departed Jan Bullis.

The penalty shot awarded by the referree was very questionnable. But it didn't matter, since Winnipeg had no chance of coming back by that time. Eller must have seen Michael Grabovski score on a shootout last season since it was exactly the same move.....well done!

The Jets are hurting: Dustin Byfuglien & Bryan Little are out. However, Mtl was bound to win one & even Tomas Kaberle scored a goal!! His first goal since March 2011!!!

It was a very close game until all hell broke loose in the third period, which is usually the habs' worst period. I'm happy for coach Randy Cunneyworth, who is currently getting the shaft from both his GM & his owner. Shame on them!

cunneyworth is definitely getting the shaft ... and balls from pete and geoff. sad. every team needs a fall guy.

but com'on Doc! give it up for Eller's 4-goal game. sure it's a 1-time thing but it's cool to net 4 in a game. it's not like it was a game of shinny with no goalie tending net. do hope lars amounts to more than jan bulis though.

The Bruins have crazy team chemistry, this is what helped them win the Cup last year. They are great at sharing the puck, the way the game is supposed to be played.
