How little you understand. Statistics don't tell you what will happen. They show you what has happened in the past. Sometimes I just get tired of explaining the simplest things to you.

Rumps is correct, Iggy.

You are quite correct, oh seer! Thou art know that this ol' doctor of love enjoys fine wine & the finest black women anytime he's in the city. Now you go & find me some hot-looking black sps the next time we hook up in our favorite city, you hear brotha?

Back to the game......

From my current perspective, it was an even period. The Leafs had their chances, and so did the Habs. The Habs' best line has been the Desharnais line....the Leafs' best line has been the Kessel line (surprise, surprise!)......Price has been very good, while Reimer has been good, but appears unsure at times.

Go Leafs Go!

p.s. By the way, i saw Scott Gomez earlier. I almost went up to him to congratulate him on his first goal, and at the same time, i would have kidded him that Obama is the greatest President ever (however, Scotty may be a Democrat also), but i figured it might jinx the Leafs if i did.

Will former Bruins sensation Phil Kessel score a hat trick? Go Leafs Go! :D
You win, Doc, you're right. I know nothing about hockey. I watched the whole game and I completely missed Kessel's hat trick. How did I miss it?

The funny thing is that, while I totally missed Kessel's big game, what I thought I saw (silly me) was one serious butt-kicking laid on the hapless Leafs by the Habs. I gotta get my eyes checked.

Peeeeuuuu all,

Leafs Massacred at Home by Canada's Team 5-0...Leafs BOOED by Home Fans. :faint:

Wow, your hockey knowledge is amazing! Phil "The Thrill" Kessel has gone from a -20 last season to as of today, a +8.

I will admit, though, that Tyler Seguin is a decent player & will even get better as the years go on. No, he will not be such a prolific scorer like the great Phil Kessel is,...

So how did that theory work out for the Leafs tonight Boyz.

On the night when Mats Sundin saw his number retired the Leafs put out such a terrific effort to honor him that they were humiliated as if his number 13 had been an omen of impending DOOM!!!

http://www.globalnews.ca/sports/car...in+on+mats+sundin+night/6442578901/story.html

TORONTO - Not only did Carey Price and the Montreal Canadiens crash the party, they did their best to spoil it.

Price turned aside all 32 shots he faced Saturday as the Habs hammered the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-0 on a night the team honoured long-time captain Mats Sundin.

It was the third straight loss for the Leafs, who remain in eighth spot in the Eastern Conference. Montreal has won four games in a row and now sits seven points back of the final playoff spot.

Erik Cole, Rene Bourque, Max Pacioretty, Lars Eller and Mathieu Darche scored goals for Montreal (23-24-9).

The Maple Leafs saw their record drop to 28-22-6 with their most embarrassing loss since getting beaten 7-0 by Boston on Nov. 5.

There was more emotion than usual on a night that started with the Maple Leafs raising Sundin's No. 13 banner to the rafters at Air Canada Centre. During a thoughtful speech, Sundin urged fans to embrace their young team because of how difficult it can be to play hockey in Toronto.

Less than two hours later, the Leafs were being booed off the ice after 40 minutes.

Montreal seized control during a second period that saw it score four times on seven shots against James Reimer. Cole started the barrage at 5:01 with a shot through the goalie's legs, Bourque made it 2-0 less than two minutes later with a one-timer and Pacioretty squeaked a shot past Reimer at 15:54.

That goal came with Leafs forward Tim Connolly in the penalty box for slashing — making it the first time in 18 games the team had surrendered a goal while shorthanded.

For good measure, Eller made it 4-0 at 18:54 after skating right around Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf and beating Reimer, prompting a loud series of boos from the sellout crowd.

Ron Wilson sent Jonas Gustavsson out for the third period, no doubt reviving the goaltending debate in the process. The Monster fared only marginally better than his counterpart, getting beaten by Darche on a breakaway just 1:29 into the period.

Price secured his fourth shutout of the season after seeing two Toronto shots hit the post in the final 20 minutes. He also stood tall during a late power play.

The Habs goaltender had to be sharp in the early stages of the game. He stopped a tricky Clarke MacArthur shot in the opening minutes and denied Phil Kessel on a partial breakaway shortly after.

Reimer was also tested a couple times during a first period that saw the Leafs outshoot the visitors 14-8. He looked solid until Cole opened the scoring.

It was just one week ago the Leafs registered an impressive 5-0 victory in Ottawa and looked poised to make a climb up the standings. But after beating Edmonton on Monday, they dropped a game in Winnipeg on Tuesday and Philadelphia on Thursday and now face a tough three-game swing through western Canada.

Montreal dug a big hole early in the season but is doing its best to keep slim playoff hopes alive. The Habs return home to face Carolina and Boston next week and need to keep winning.

It looks like Kessel's "hot stick" was as effective as string cheese. Damn! Not to mention that Eller absolutely used both Phaneuf and Reimer like wooden statues...and the fans booed!

How do the Leafs fans cope with the team getting their heads handed to them so thoroughly by their ultimate rivals who were only a 12th place team in the conference at the start of the game.

The fact is the Leafs are an early playoff exit team...if they get that lucky.

In other news: the Bruins defeated a good Predators team with some sharp shootout moves.

awful,

Shouldn't this have been posted in the 'free-for-all' thread?

Doc,

Show me one thing I wrote that is not a fact and I will move it to the Free-For-All thread. The story is Canadian, and everything I wrote is dead on accurate. All of the terms fit the event precisely, and I am fully entitled to my opinions of the Leafs prospects. Just because you and your pal like putting news in the other thread does not mean anyone else has to.

Quit while your ahead, even I gave you the benefit of the doubt! :)

Carry on boys......... The Leafs should learn from this game tonight and should come out flying from here on out! A young team needs games like this to learn from.

No I did not see the warning by Mod8 before posting. If either you, Doc, or M8 show me one word out of line with a 5-0 beating at home by your arch-rivals I'll disappear for 3 days on my own from the sports threads.

Just because the facts don't appeal to you does not make it a flame post.

I forgive you, my friend. However, in the future, we should leave the taunting for the 'free-for-all' thread if it's okay with you.

What can i say? The Leafs sucked the joint tonight. That's a fact. It happens. The Bruins have a very good team. That's another fact. What can i add? The Habs kicked the Leafs' butts, but the Habs will be on the golf course in a couple of months. That's also a fact. Peace, brother.

Doc,

The Bruins got beat...what...6-0 the other night. It was a humiliating MASSACRE, and pretty darn disturbing too...terms I can accept because they fit precisely. I have no idea why being honest and accurate needs to be in the Free-For-All thread. Had you guys wrote what I am saying here there would have been no possible argument against it. The Bruins played God-awful. There was no excuse for it and no Bruins fans had any right to say otherwise or complain about anyone else who said so. The truth is not flaming, just because it stinks. I said myself they were el stinko...and no one said that should be in the other thread then. Was I taunting myself...or just being honest.

As to the game tonight, it's the third loss in a row, and this time at home to a team with a poor record. Kessel is definitely not enough to put the Leafs over the top to be a real contender. The Leafs need some sort of trade, one to build defense one way or another, or they will be waiting until the draft and the risks of developing a solid player who can make a difference.

It really doesn't matter where the Habs will be, the object is to learn the lessons of where the weaknesses are to make the Leafs a top contender...and that is all that counts for Toronto.

Cheers,

Merlot
