Alright, doctor said one glass of Red wine is good. So I pushed the limit to one complete bottle of Red last night waiting for the count of midnight !

I bought a reasonable bottle of wine for the occasion to be a ME and myself new year celebration along with Ryan Seacrest on ABC. It was a bottle of Amarone at 45$ a bottle at the SAQ. Jesus, when I tasted it there is no way I'm going back to my regular Jacob's Creek, Menage a Trois or to the extent the Liano.

What kind of wine you like and what is good ? Share your best wine as reasonably price per bottle. I'm a Red amateur and willing to try some good recommendations.

I like German Rieslings and Prosecco since I can't really drink red wine - except for Port wine which I like for after dinner wines. I like Six Grapes for Port Wine. Don't ask me why I can drink Port but not other red wine, it is what it is.

Cannot believe there was not thread on wine.

I was hooked on Amarone for a while A12B, but then found them too hard on alcool. I switch to Spannish Crianza and now pretty much hooked on nice Pinot Noir wine, either from Bourgogne or Italia.

As for white, I am all up for Chablis. This French region really mastered the Chardonnay grapes. American makes nice Chardonnay but I often found them too smoky or too full bodied. Bordeau Sancerre are an nice option.

Wines from Spain (Otazu and much more) and Portugal (Alto Moncayo, Clio and much more);

Otazu! I forgot about that wine, use to buy it, very nice.

Often I would buy it along with Chile the Arboleda Valle de Aconcagua

But these are full bodied red wine, which I love but drink less and less. I am now pretty much into Pinot Noir and the state of Oregon is a master at Pinot Noir wine. Up to par with the best one from Burgundy if you ask me

I like Stag's leap Fay and SLV. This is not an everyday wine, maybe once a month or two months. Dylan Hell Hollow is my favorite. Around 50 US, at discount outlet is selling for $40. Have you try Justin or Carr?

Here's a few for you A12B:
- les marches de Cayx Cahors, $22
- Chateau Carolle Graves, $21
- Rosso del Camul Veneto, $20
all red, affordable, and all drinkable right away. I am not an expert, esp on wines from France and Italy (just too many to sample!). I do find most reds from Spain very reliable and very reasonable.

I've started drinking red wine on a regular basis now. I used to only drink it when travelling to Montreal. Now i drink it as much as i drink Bud Light. My prefered type is Shiraz, although i'll try other types once in a while. I never spend more than $15 a bottle and will usually look at which of the wines are on sale here in Ontario at the LLBO stores. To my surprise, some of the wines i really like (but aren't on sale often) are wines from the Ontario Niagara region. Wayne Gretzky and Mike Weir actually make some pretty decent wines. My preference are Australian wines, but i also have an affinity for wines from South Africa and Chile. Wines from France are also very good, but not my favorites.

Amarone and Barolo are nice full bodied wines. They are great paired with steak or roast beef. For just wine drinking purposes I prefer to go with Pinot Noir, Malbec or Chianti reds. For whites I really only drink Chardonnays.

And yes there generally is a marked difference between the quality of a $45 bottle vs a $10 bottle. I only shop in vintages at the LCBO.........yes I'm a wine snob. Very rarely am I buying a bottle under $30.

All wines red and white that I have had from the Pessac-Leognan appellation in Bordeaux have been very enjoyable...I also agree with the earlier post about pinot noir from Oregon...great stuff!

Did not know. They call it the "baby amarones". Same rich flavor and aroma, lighter yet still full-bodied, and much less expensive. Interesting finding, thanks!

At SAQ, I will say that Tommasi Ripasso is the best that I've tried from more than >25 available suppliers (I missed only 1 or 2). Amarone are more balanced. Ripasso have much more flavor (rich) and in fact less expensive.


Wine decanter recommended.

Pour le vin blanc, mes préférés sont Le Willm Riesling et Le Jacob's Creek Chardonnay.

Here is my recommendation for the week: Domaine de Riaux, 2014, Pouilly Fumé (white of course) Jeannot Pères et Fils. Enjoy.

A classic! Up in line with some of the best Chablis or Sancerre I think. If you get a chance to get a hold of the 2011 do it. The 2011 was marked as exceptional.
