Ah,
I kinda missed on a lot in the SNES era, i extended the NES longer than most, then eventually got a N64 for birthday. I experienced SNES(as well as Genesis) mostly at friend's place and "maison des jeunes" and i got one later on afterr the N64. But i missed on lots of titles. Still got to play Mario World, Mortal Kombat and some others a lot.
I will politely disagree with you on Nintendo. I think by the N64 they lost there edge already to the PS1, even if the consol on there side was stronger. But it was still a fairly competitive gen, after that they declined... My Game Cube was mostly used to play Phantasy Star Online but when i left the game, it took dust until the release of Resident Evil 4, and then after that i just sold it. I was barely playing it, was way more on my PS2 and Xbox. Xbox became my home, i choose the 360 for the next generation and had no regret, i realized i loved online shooters and i became mostly an online gamer. I still do offline stories of course but i mostly play online. This gen, i kept with Xbox as well, i have a friend list, lots of gamerscore, didn't want to change that. But i will agree that Sony had interesting stuff this gen and i was tempted to get a PS4 at some point, but Gears of War is too much a must for me to leave Xbox lol.
To get back on Nintendo, the Wii sold well but it was a gimmick that appealed to lots of casuals, i know lots of people that purchased the consol but barely played it. I personally only wanted to play the resident evil on rail that where release on it and thats about it. As for the Wii U i have absolutely no interest in it, and its kinda failing a lot in sale too. The only thing that seem to make it work still is that japan is a shitty place for Xbox, they barely sell any consol there, so Nintendo still has a part of the market. In North America tough, different story.
In any case mayb its because i grew up, and Nintendo "family titles" don't appeal to me like when i was a kid. I love Mario 64 but i barely tough Sunshine was ok at best, and i later tried Galaxy at a friend's place and had no interest in it. But yeah this is just me and my style, there still lot of people enjoying those game, actually lots of people buy a Nintendo consol as a secondary consol just for the nintendo exclusive. If your a gamer, you CAN'T solely buy a nintendo consol anymore, thus why i said they lost it over the years. You either have to get a PS4/X1 or game on PC at the same time. Third party support for Nintendo is desastrous.
