When a reporter asked about peaceful protesters at the White House being tear gassed so that Trump could do a photo-op, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau went silent for a truly agonizing 21 seconds.

All kinds of thoughts must have been racing through Trudeau’s brain - “Fuck, fuck! What am I supposed to say? I can’t piss Trump off or he might go do something crazy to Canada. If I don’t condemn it then it’s like agreeing w/ that fascist Orange shit.”

I genuinely felt bad for Trudeau, the whole country is watching and he was like a a bambi in the headlights, looked almost scared. I wanted to scream, “Bro, say something, anything! Whatever u say can’t be worst than this!”

Trudeau wld probably hv to live w/ this embarrasing video clip for a long time but it’s tough living next door to the world’s only superpower, esp with a mercurial & possibly insane Trump in the White House. At least Merkel & Macron hv the collective strength of the EU backing them while Oz & NZ r a world away. Tough times.

Yeah I think he was trying to strike the right balance. The Orange Man Baby would hear one word of criticism and we could be right back to another trade dispute with Canada. I certainly understand why people like Trudeau feel the need to be diplomatic. What I don't understand is why people like George W Bush are tiptoeing around Trump too. Bush released a mealy-mouthed statement. If we're breaking norms left and right, might as well break another one and have a former President criticize a current one that is flushing the entire country down the toilet.

It's days like these that Robin Williams was on point when he called Canada "a really nice apartment over a meth lab."

Thanks Donbusch to start this thread.

Justin Trudeau did well. I understand that Trump is so touchy, and yes childish (you have to give him his candy because otherwise he will react very strongly).

Trudeau and Trump are very different, if he had not been the Prime Minister of Canada, he would have said the bottom of his mind, but he had to think of these citizens

I chuckled at his discomfort but I do not envy him. I am an NDP supporter, but I won't slight Trudeau on this one, Singh has the ability to be more vocal as he is not the PM. The PM has to maintain a certain level of diplomacy for the benefit of his citizens. I can personally make the decision to be vocal about my political beliefs and possibly lose business from people who don't agree, and that is my personal choice that only effects me. We have many vulnerable people in Canada who would be drastically impacted by a trade war or any further disputes with America, and for them I will allow Trudeau to pussy foot around this topic without criticism.

When I saw it, I became uncomfortable. I was alone at home, and I said aloud, NO, NO, think of others in your country. I would have liked him so much to tell Trump what he thought of him, "Fuck you, my asshole" but he stopped himself, and everyone concluded.
I really don't want to be in her place.

Sometimes silence speaks more than words.

Indeed tough times,
-1- Big difference here is Macron & Merkel or any country in Europe have no common borders with the USA!
-2- Canada business links with USA are WAY more important than again any European countries!
but yeah 20 seconds ... silence indeed speaks volume!

Even today, journalists have repeatedly asked the same question: why 21 seconds before answering.

Stop harassing him, it seems clear to me. He used all the diplomacy possible to protect our economy which depends a lot on the USA, and enriched for us. This time I agree, he turned his tongue 7 times in his mouth before speaking.

All because of the President. It reminds me of the clown toy that suddenly comes out of a box.

Republicans who don't think like Trump, speak up, as his defense minister does.

Look behind you.
My guess is that Trudeau was getting cued on what to say and putting words together in his mind before he spoke. The drink water box episode shows he does not think well when asked a question.

Canada is basically a vassal state of the US empire. The last time we disagreed on foreign policy was when Jean Chretien opposed the war in Iraq. Think about it.

So apart from your malice & disparagement of Canada, what is your contribution?

Canada is next door neighbor to a superpower, it’s not an easy situation to be in. I think Canadians have nothing to ashamed about & have done very well under these circumstances.

America is fortunate to have such a fantastic neighbor. The affinity & friendship between both sides is the envy of the world. Perhaps u wld prefer to move to the China/India border, Crimea, Kashmir, Gaza Strip or the DMZ.

I find it hilarious that you mention Gaza, when we're supporting the oppression of the Palestinian people.
Kids, journalists, and medics are all being shot with prohibited explosive ammunitions as well as gassed with unknown toxic substances. Nothing to be ashamed of, right?

Neo-Nazi terrorists in Crimea were US-backed.
The DMZ? I suppose you're referring to North Korea where the US carpet bombed and murdered around 30% of its population? Lol.

You seem unaware of all the war crimes and crimes against humanity that the US, as well as Canada are involved in.
I hope you realize exceptionalism is a form of indoctrination.

All I'm saying is, we can do better as a country. But you have an issue with me for pointing out the obvious? LMAO.

Well Fakee, what’s really hilarious is that your rants about Gaza, Crimea, DMZ have proven my point abt how important it is to live in peace with one’s neighbor like Canada & the US.

I have never endorsed the situations in any of those war zones like Gaza, Crimea, DMZ except to suggest that u shld consider moving there since u object so much to life in wonderful Canada. Your dishonest misrepresentation of my posts just exposes who you really are.

So your argument is that it's good to be a lapdog to avoid being oppressed like the other countries, correct?
Is that what makes you proud? Is that why you say Canada is wonderful? Or is that a dishonest misrepresentation?

Maybe because you're blind to the reality we live in. How is it dishonesty when you're the one who is in denial?
A wonderful country would oppose war crimes and crimes against humanity, instead of being complicit in them.
A wonderful country should be able to make its own independent decisions.

Sounds like you'll let the orange man fuck you in the ass just to keep a good relationship.

Yawn, another one of your lame & dishonest attempts to ascribe false claims to me. Try harder Fakee.

Btw, I have never claimed to be Canadian and my many posts on Trump make it clear that I do not endorse him. Do yr homework Junior.

Anyway, if u think life in Canada is so horrible, then move. Quit whining.

Even if you're not a Trump supporter, it does not counter my argument.
You keep on using the same circular arguments. How many times do you use the word "dishonest" in a debate? Lol.

I didn't say life in Canada is horrible. The leadership (or lack of) is horrible.
I guess you just made a dishonest claim, right? LOL.

Since you're not Canadian, I suppose you give zero fucks about our government. Just like you give zero fucks about the people who are oppressed overseas.

You made dishonest representations so why be bothered when people call u out for it? Right Fakee?

It’s a fair assumption from your posts that u dislike living in Canada. But if u want to backtrack, go ahead.
