SL,

What is it with your disruptive posts??????? Obviously the point of this thread is to provide information to those who cross the border on I-87. What is the point of your post, other than to be disruptive? As far as I am concerned your contributions to this Board, excepting disruptions and criticisms, are ZERO. No reviews, no meaningful information, no nothing, and you set a bad example for newer posters who emulate your non-contribution, making this Board less informational and more confrontational than it actually should be.

Thats actually good info for me, I'll have to watch my speed when I go that way. I used to make that trip really fast, average of 80 to 90 mph the whole way. I'll have to take my time for my October trip. Thanx EagerBeaver

SL,

You think that the different branches of LE do not communicate with each other? It is not a question of jurisdiction. If the feds see an offense that is being committed that comes under local jurisdiction, they don't ignore it. They call local or State LE. Obviously you don't know too much about LE.

I'll break it down to make this easy for everyone to understand: the guys in these helicopters will be in communication with local or State LE on the ground and in the air including NY State trooper patrol cars already waiting for speeders. They will also be in communication with Border Patrol vehicles on the ground to catch the really bad guys.

Stripper Lover, please take your disruptions to another thread. You want to post bullshit, go ahead, just don't do it in my threads or I will complain to the Mods.

As far as to what was reported in the papers, this special set up is not for traffic violation, but to securize the borders against terrorism, drug traficking, illegal immigrants (sp or not!)and the like (reference was made to border with Mexico). They may also have referred to illegal crossing by our cows benefiting from the green pastures of the Northern States.
They won't loose their times with speed tickets and the likes!

I think this board, "the lounge" is an appropriate place for any thread having to to with US-Canadian issues/relations etc.etc. As far as the air patrols go, it has nothing to do with traffic violators. Out here in the west, there really is no border at all. I was in Montana on a ranch a few years back, one side of a wooded area was the US. A short 15 minute walk through the woods put you on a country road in Canada leading to Lethbridge Alberta . These patrols will be used mostly for those rural areas that one can just walk across. I would guess they'll be using night vision & heat sensing equipment.

You guys, if the pilots of these helicopters see someone racing 100 mph down I-87, I can assure you it will not be ignored. The NY State Troopers who are in the area will be notified and the offender will be stopped. Of course this is not the primary objective for these pilots. But if you think a speeder will be ignored because these guys have other things to do, think again.

Jaxon, the main reason I posted is because they are specifically building a base in Plattsburgh, NY. It may be that the rural areas in Montana need to be patrolled for the reason you mentioned but the I-87 and I-89 areas will be heavily patrolled. I have seen numerous Border Patrol vehicles south of the I-89/I-91 junction in Vermont on my recent trips to Montreal.

"MISSISSAUGA, Ontario (AP) - Former Pro Bowl receiver Andre Rison signed with the CFL's Toronto Argonauts on Saturday, less than two weeks after a U.S. judge ordered his arrest for failing to pay child support. "

Is the above a criminal offence in the USA (not one in Canada as far as I know) and in the affirmative, the US patrols should intervene to prevent a criminal from crossing their border!

Will the patrols play it both ways?

Lawless,

Failure to pay court ordered child support is considered contempt of Court and the judge has discretion to issue an arrest warrant. This is probably an order from a State Court judge, and likely the federal authorities would not get involved because no federal law has been violated.

Lawless,

Speeding is an offense punishable under State law. If you are on a State or Interstate Highway, like I-87, then it will be the NY State Trooper who punishes you. If you get off the highway, it will be the local town or city cop. Either way it is State law that proscribes the offense.

But then why would the Border Patrol lookiing for bigger fish loose their time with speeding tickets!
Unless they believe there might be white stuff in the car?
Or people like Andre Rison?
Have a nice evening and very pleased to have you back with your greatly appreciated style!
Are you really serious about voting for Nader?
Is there a green party which could get your vote?

Lawless,

The helicopter pilots see someone going 100 mph, in their headset they pick up a line and call the local cops, it takes all of 2 seconds, and meanwhile they have not lost sight of whatever "bigger fish" they are surveilling. These guys are a lot more sophisticated than you think. Do not underestimate the US federal LE, be it Border Patrol, FBI, DEA, ATF, INS, or whatever branch.

A provision of the Criminal Code, now rarely used against deadbeat alimentary support debtors, is the offence of "failing to provide the necessaries of life". At best, it was only a pressure tactic, as would be citation for contempt of court. Provincial governments now being involved in the collection of these payments, the tendency is to more aggressively seize assets and withhold tax refunds, etc.. Under federal legislation, it would even be possible for a persistent defaulter (i.e. misses 3 consecutive payments or owes more than $3000) to have a passport or any federal licence (e.g. pilot, boating) revoked or suspended, if the provincial collector made such a request.

I have a close friend who works for the FBI. I reported Stripper Lover's statement to him just now and he laughed. He told me that while he can not speak for the military, if the FBI witnesses an offense being committed over which they have no jurisdiction, they do not ignore it. They report it to the local LE which has jurisdiction immediately. This would be the case with a car obviously speeding, swerving or some other openly obvious offense.

I like a lot of the films in which he acted. Didn't know he was doing documentaries now, but I guess there wasn't a lot to do after he lost the Bond role. Maybe he can do a dramatization of "Roger and Me". :D
