I am thinking of starting a website and am looking for general advice.

I have done extensive C++ programming and generally pretty good with computers but basically dont know much about setting up a basic website.

Did a bit of quick research and godaddy.com looks easy to use get up and running quickly.

But, lets just say this website would be related to the sex industry :) so am a little worried about which host to go with....anybody have some basic advice?

It all depends on what you mean by "related to the sex industry." If you are in the U.S. and you are setting up a site for an escort, then you have a big challenge ahead of you. You would probably need to look outside the U.S. for a host.

If you're in Canada, then it should be easier to find a host.

Lots of people use Wordpress to build and edit a site. Take a look at their offerings.

If it is a simple product or service site then there are plenty of DIY website builders. If it is a custom site it is better to hire an expert.

Do NOT set up a .com domain - use .ca or some other country's extension - as all .com's go through a USA-based domain server (translation from textural url to numerical domain address) and the way things are going, it would not surprise me that the US government would try to pull the plug on ALL .com escort websites worldwide someday soon!.

i checked wix and did a quick test for free...it is really easy. I noticed the euphoria site is done through wix. they dont seem to have a problem with having a *.com. but i too worry a bit about paying for a site that has sex-industry related content on my credit card...

by the way i live her in montreal, but travel often to the us

you should definitely make sure to have a domain in Netherlands or Switzerland. Nothing hosted in the States or you're taking a chance it might get deleted.
