That name is so boring and unimaginative. They should have called themselves, "The Football Team Formerly Known As The Redskins", as a tribute to Prince.

I honestly do not understand all this. To me names like the Chicago Blackhawks and Washington Redskins
were just a name for teams like any other, I guess to some it is obviously racist and demeaning and I am not trying to belittle their feelings.
Where will this end though is every country in the world going to go back in their history and get rid of any name or reference that happens to infuriate one race or another depending on who is in power today and what the governments tolerance level is.
Are we going to rewrite all of history based on what is politically correct today, are we going to keep doing it as governments and people’s opinion keep changing or do we record and leave history as it actually happened, accept that it is not meant to be offensive to anyone it is just recorded facts.

Redskin is a derogatory term. Look it up. If Webster’s dictionary listed the Term Fradi as sexually timid attention seeking mongerer, would you not think guys like this not get offended if MTL named its NFL team

Blackhawks are named after Chief Black Hawk. The meaning of the Braves is an Indian warrior. The Cleveland Indians were nicknamed after an Indian player when they were formally known as the Spiders. I don’t feel the names are offensive, but the logos Are a different story. The Redskins name and logo we’re both offensive so I’m not surprised they had to go.

What is interesting to me is that they are considering renaming the redskins after the 1st African American core of fighter pilots in one of the wars. Believe the name red tails is working name. Great name, but for F’sake. You offended native Americans for 80 something years and you decide to change the name and commemorate AA history, lol? Doesn’t make much sense to me.

I saw a tv report, i think on CNN, explaining that surveys show that the younger generations are more sensitive to these names that might be considered racist or offensive. So to help built a new generation of fans it is the best decision. Added to this fact is marketing departments explained to team owners that they would make millions in rebranding jerseys, baseball caps, and other articles.
