As a cinephile and huuuuge horror lover, I wanna know what is your favorite horror movie and why!

For me, I love when horror comes from bleak, disturbing and psychosexual subgenres, often coming from the cruelty of humans. Just like:

• Funny Games - Michael Haneke (1997)
• Possession - Andrzej Żulawski (1981)
• Opera - Dario Argento (1987)
• Eraserhead - David Lynch (1977)
• The Devils - Ken Russell (1971)
• Hellraiser - Clive Barker (1987)
• Get Out - Jordan Peele (2017)
• Climax - Gaspar Noé (2018)
And that's just a few of them:)

The Hellraiser series, without a doubt, especially the last two in the series, Judgment (2018) and Hellraiser the Reboot (2022), which, IMHO, bested the original film. Brilliant series, indeed. It would take a book to give reasons why this series is so important. As you said previously, Goddess Maple, the "bleak, disturbing psychosexual aspects" of the series holds a profound place in the imagination of many a person, hence why it still continues to be so popular. The outstanding quote that sums up the series: "We are explorers in the further regions of experience: demons to some, angels to others."

Interesting question, different ways to answer it i guess :)
If i had to choose the best horror movie overall, in terms of both horror and cinematography, i would go with The Exorcist.
One of the most disturbing movies i've seen would be Martyrs and probably Videodrome
Ringu and Ju-On are pretty good examples of Japanese Horror
Train to Busan and (the TV show) Kingdom are great Korean flicks
John Carpenter needs to be in that list obviously, Prince of Darkness is a favourite of mine (in the mouth of Madness was mentioned before) and i'm one of the few who think Ghosts of Mars is a great movie.
Terence Fisher should be there also alongside Christopher Lee for their Dracula's
As for Romero, i don't think anything can beat Night of the Living Dead.
Argento with Suspiria, Inferno and his version of Dawn of the Dead (the european release)

This is a good and fucked up list. I like your style.

I tend to like my horror to have pitch black humor, things like:

Evil Dead 2
TCM
Brain Dead

I also like the French new wave movies like Martyrs, Inside, High tension, Frontiers etc.

Wishmaster, I prefer supernatural horror
Evil Dead
The Omen

Worst one I ever saw was B/C-movie Knight of the Dead. From the DVD cover, you expect that the payoff will be that during the denouement, a badass knight in plate armor will go plowing through the revenants (correct medieval European term for zombie). At no point does any armored knight appear. False fucking advertising.

I also have a soft spot for cosmic horror/body horror of the H.P. Lovecraft/Toshio Maeda school, Proper Lovecraft adaptations are few and far between, but the recent The Color Out Of Space was alright (Nic Cage is all and all is in Nic Cage), along with the Necronomicon anthology from '93. There's also From Beyond from '86 but haven't seen that one yet. Cast a Deadly Spell seems more light-hearted but I wouldn't be averse to it.

Dressed to Kill (1980), by Brian De Palma.

Ring (1998) and The Silence of the Lambs (1991) complete the podium.

Honorable mentions to Saw (2004) and I Saw the Devil (2010).

silence of the lambs is also on my list of favorite movies ever! i saw the devil has been on my watchlist for years lol.

Favorite franchise for me, I can't wait for the video game to come out.

Poltergeist (1982)
Halloween (1978)
The Shining (1980)
A nightmare on Elm street (1984)
In the mouth of madness (1994)
They are also all on my all time favorite list! John Carpenter has my heart.

I saw Videodrome two weeks ago on the big screen, it was amazinnnng! I love your choices. Is Kingdom an adaptation from the one of Lars Von Trier?

Lovecraft is the man! My fave of his is At the Mountains of Madness. The film The Shuttered Room 1960's was based on one of his works.

Thanks for adding It Follows, it was in my head and forgot to put it on my list, part of this recent horror revival that ifind so interesting.
Blair Witch Project should be somewhere, i'm not sure if it's the 1st found footage movie or not but it seems to have created a trend.
Here's a link to the Netflix TV show i mentioned before The Kingdom
Great list BTW
