Dr Zook,
It is partly true. Hundreds of girls seem to be a little bit too much. My recollections date back to the very late 70's to mid 80's
A thing is sure however: you could find over 50 SW each nights on the Red Light district. Each had their own spots. The girls from the USA (mostly black hookers coming on the summer time from Buffalo, New York, Toronto, etc.) were working on the corner of Sainte-Catherine and Saint-Laurent (where there was a Harvey's and a tourist room -I guess that the tourist room is still there).
On Sainte-Catherine, up to Saint-Denis you had, on both sides of the streets, hords of hookers, locals and visitors from all around the country (Maritimes, Prairies, USA, etc.). There were also a lot of hookers on all the streets in the district between Maisonneuve, Saint Laurent, Saint-Denis and Dorchester...oups René-Lévêsque.
Each night it was a night mare to drive in that district: the men hunting for hookers were circling around that quadrilateral area.
In order to minimize this problem the municipality changed the direction of the streets (one way streets) during the early 80's. Nowadays it is impossible to do it anymore.
There was a very large selection of girls: from the ugliest to the prettiest.
There was only one price: 50$ plus the room (there were a scores of tourists rooms in that area).
Briefly, during 1984 up to 1986, there were HDH hookers on Sainte-Catherine between Peel and Mansfield (or another street, my memory is failing me here). Very good looking hookers, welll dressed and most of them were Caucasian. They were hanging on Sainte-Catherine, South side of the street, in front of the arcades, the strip club, Dutchie's record cave, etc.)
There was a tourist room nearby (I think it is still there: between Sainte-Catherine and René-Lévèsque, besides a Parking lot). You could also go with the girl to an Hotel nearby (Hotel Europa). It was 100$ for an hour.
