- If you swallow gum, it stays in your stomach forever (or for 7 years)

- If you turn the light on in the car at night, you’ll get pulled over by the police

It could be urban legends, old wives’ tales, childhood myths/ fairytales, folklore…

I'm of Chinese origin and there are LOT of beliefs, folklore and rituals regarding to luck, health and wealth.

The ones I remember and my mother brainwashed me as a kid are during the Chinese new year (CNY):
- The CNY is a kind of reboot of the year so everything is brand new and your luck is back too so I couldn't: Wash my hair on the first day otherwise good luck will be washed away. It was the same for cutting your hair, cutting my nails and sweeping the floor or getting the trash out.

Or the ones regarding ghosts ... There is a period of time in the year when the door to the after world opens and of course there are lots of things not to do to avoid attracting ghosts to you and your house: do not walk along walls as the ghosts transit via it, do not pick up any objects on the the streets like money because a ghost can be waiting for someone to pick him up, do not open an umbrella indoor because a ghost can be hiding inside and it will release him. Or past a certain hour during the night, do not go out otherwise a ghost might grip into you and you'll bring him back.

As for the wealth, I was always told not to while seated stomp my feet because it's a way to loose wealth. Or certain type of food are often present during celebration because their Chinese character sounds like / are homonyms to wealth, health, etc.

I think it’s cause religious parents or conservative cultures (like mine) get all awkward and give u nonsensical answers when you ask them the question about how it looks for girls. So u start imagining. Then you discover porn at 11-12 you tell yourself it looks way better than I thought. As much as porn can be bad it has this positive aspect to it.
I heard stories of a religious couple. Guy fucked the girls navel. They both thought it was normal. Poor girl had to go to emergency

Like instead of saying “vulva” they’d use some other word, almost like they were too uncomfortable to talk about it.
Don’t get me wrong, this also made things super funny but it did cause lots of confusion.

Like for example, my Greek best friend - when she got her period she thought she was dying. Her mom never spoke about this stuff with her. She had to find out through a friend at school how to use pads and what a period was. Fkn wild.

Fun fact regarding the money picking: when I used to go to the gym, I found a bank note in the changing room. I did pick it up somehow and put it in my shoes bag, but after thinking a bit I never took out the bank note out of the bag for the reason mentioned above ...
If you see me going to the gym again you'll see for sure a bank note inside without any logical reasons... Lol
