Who sells the cheapest internet service on Montreal.

Time to renegotiate my internet service with Bell. I need to know who is the cheapest in Montreal. The usually give me the same rate plus a month free when I call up to cancel their service.

Good point on Fibe TV John, if this is of interest to you you're stuck with Bell for internet services. If not, a good suggestion above was Tek Savvy . Another one is electronicbox which I use, so I offer it as an option but do not promote it for fear of being labeled a shill

There's a bunch of others like Tek and EB, the cool thing with these guys is that they're 3rd party providers. You're getting Videotron or Bell service, but at a discounted rate.

Example of my service, 8 mbit and a 250gb limit per month, for 31.95 + tx.

gan is making me question my quoted amounts above. I believe he's 100% right and the limit is 100gb. Upping the transfer rate to 10 mbit also rings a bell but I don't pay that close attention.

The thing with these 3rd party companies like Tekksavvy and Electronicbox is that their prices are very competitive but the initial setup fees are high. I think that's the reason why they offer lower monthly rates. ie , Electronicbox charges 85$ setup fees plus about 100$ for the modem plus 15$ shipping. So that's 200$ up front to get their service. If you divide that into 12 months, that's almost 20$/month (including taxes) Which brings them to about the same price as Bell or Videotron.

I hate Bell with a passion due to their shady billing practices and horrible customer service but their prices for internet are very fair and they deliver what they promise. I have only internet with them. I have the 50/10 Fibe service and its always at full speed. I pay 50$/month for it (new offer for 6months) Then I will call the loyalty department and have them keep it at that price. The only thing I hate is the modem they use (Sagemcomm) really sucks if you're using a usb NAS connected to it. None of my Android devices are able to download to it.

I have been with Distributel since June no issues, they are reasonably priced and most importantly there is no limit to downloads.

It's fast! They use Videotrons cables and network.

Good point on the setup cost but it depends on a couple factors.

The easiest is if you plan on sticking around, for example I've been with them for 4 years so when you amortize that it's really next to nothing.

The other one in my mind is that the big providers are no longer negotiating past the initial offerings for new setups. Some do get away with it after hours of arguing with CS, but I got tired of that game and after that one time 200$ charge my rate is half of what my friends pay directly to the big guys.

I'm curious as well, do the big guys still charge anything for setup and/or modem lease/purchase?

Bell charged me 49.99$ initial fee but I got it waved by loyalty dept. Told them the sales person told me there wouldnt be any setup fees and that was the reason I was signing up with them. Took me 15minutes of arguing to get the credit.

Nice, that's one thing I'll say about the 3rd party providers is that you cannot negotiate with them (or barely). What they ask is what it will be. Not really a bad thing in my mind, shows that they're giving the service for what it's really worth while keeping them profitable rather than gouging the general public and allowing the smaller % of people who can really negotiate to get a decent rate. Don't get me wrong, I'm not being all high and mighty about it, it is what it is and that's why the rich get richer

i switched from bell to zid. Identical service, same speed, both unlimited, half the price. it was actually a bell guy that set it up so it's the identical thing. there was some kind of set up fee but I calculated it out and I'd save hundreds in the first year.

I've been with VIF Internet for over 10 years. Started on Dial-up, then went to ADSL. Now I'm on cable.

If you pay for a whole year in advance, it comes down to 29.95 per month + tax. No set up fee. Modem is a loaner. You get 100 G-B per month. Speed is 8Mbps.

I would say that if you find anything cheaper, jump on it...
