Anquan Boldin named Walter Payton Man of the Year

NFL.com said:
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Anquan Boldin has been named the 2015 Walter Payton Man of the Year at this season's NFL Honors. The veteran, who is a three-time Pro Bowl selection, and Super Bowl champion, is undeniably one of the game's most dynamic players, but it was his philanthropic endeavors that garnered him the prestigious award.

"When I first got into the NFL nobody could tell me anything. I was living life," Boldin said. "I had achieved my dream of one day making it into the NFL, but I soon realized that's not what life is all about. I realized my purpose in life was not to make it to the NFL and score touchdowns. God put me on this earth for something much bigger than that and I realized and understand what my purpose is now. ... It's my prayer and my hope that I can live out the rest of my life honoring God and help as many people as possible."

Boldin established the Anquan Boldin (Q81) Foundation in 2004 with the mission to expand the educational and life opportunities of underprivileged children, and has since has held charitable events in Phoenix, Baltimore, South Florida and the San Francisco Bay Area. In 2014, he and his wife Dionne announced a $1 million pledge to escalate the impact of the Foundation.

The Anquan Boldin Foundation offers numerous programs, including a summer enrichment program, Thanksgiving food drives, which offers 300 meals annually in addition to holiday shopping sprees. Last fall, the Foundation awarded $10,000 academic scholarships to five students entering college. Since the Foundation's inception, it has awarded 13 four-year scholarships through the "Q81" Foundation Scholarship Fund.

"I know I'm here receiving this award, but there should be a line of people standing alongside of me because my Foundation doesn't work without them," Boldin said.

Boldin has also made an impact globally. Since 2010, he has worked with Oxfam America, taking two overseas trips to Ethiopia and Senegal, later using his testimony to lobby Senegalese rights at the White House.

Boldin is the first 49ers player to win the distinguished award.

The stage was set and it ended the same way.

Congrats to all class act, Peyton Manning and THEE Denver Broncos!

Such a enjoyable Super Bowl without cheating :thumb:
The stage is eerily familiar to when Elway and the Bronco's were the underdogs to a young Brett Favre led Packers team in suberbowl XXXII. Now we have Manning and the Bronco's who have Manning ending a HOF career versus a great young QB in Cam Newton and the Panthers

Why did Cam Newton not try to recover costly Super Bowl fumble?

Sporting News said:
SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Why?

Why didn't Cam Newton pounce on that fumble?

The question will be asked by talking heads for the next week. Newton may ask himself the same question a lot longer.

On a third-and 9 from their own 25-yard line with 4:04 remaining in Super Bowl 50, the Panthers had hope. They trailed 16-10 and, despite a rough day at the office, still had the NFL's MVP under center.

Newton took a snap and looked to make a throw downfield. But as he had been all game, he was pressured by the Broncos' tenacious pass rush and forced out of the pocket. Denver pass rusher Von Miller then put the stamp on his Super Bowl MVP performance and knocked the ball from Newton's hand. But the play wasn't over. The game wasn't over.

All Newton needed to do was fall on the ball.

He did not

Look behind you.
I thought that Denver was about to lose the game with around 5 min left, WFT, 3rd and 9 or 17 and a running play, and they did this numerous times. Did they lose confidence in Manning or the receivers, yes in the end they won but they took one hell of a chance with punting the ball away a few too many times. Too many Carolina screwups.

Thanks Smuler. Congratulations to the Mets for a great season last year. Although the WS didn't go as planned, the Amazings had a great year.

Manziel Mess

This is just one ugly mess and it will be interesting to see how it plays out:

http://www.cnn.com/2016/04/26/us/johnny-manziel-indicted/

It's a misdemeanor but there is the possibility of up to a year in jail time and NFL suspension regardless of how the criminal case shakes out.

The key prosecution witness is the ex girlfriend Crowley, who was allegedly assaulted and allegedly lost her hearing as a result of the assault, this according to her own affidavit. She doesn't have to cooperate but if she doesn't, she can be subpoenaed to trial, confronted with the affidavit, and be forced to corroborate it under penalty of perjury if she doesn't. Since she is no longer dating Manziel, it will go worse for him if she does cooperate.

Another possible prosecution witness is the valet who failed to intervene. I truly feel sorry for the dude because he was and is in a lose-lose situation no matter what he did. Crowley asked that the valet not let Johnny take her away from the hotel. Johnny was the paying guest, not the girl. The valet therefore had to choose between pissing off the paying guest- something he chose not to do- or ignoring the damsel in distress, who then got assaulted due to valet failing to intervene to stop the parties from driving away. On cross examination, this valet will likely be asked about whether the parties looked intoxicated and what the parties said and what the hotel policies are for intervening in disputes on the premises. He better look at the police report and be careful about his responses if they did some intoxication tests. I don't think he will come out of this smelling like a rose with his employer. He was working at the wrong valet station at the wrong time.

I don't see this going well for Manziel. It may be that the only way to defend it will be to take the stand if Crowley testifies against him. Otherwise he will have to rely on prosecutors cross examining his own ex-girlfriend which will not look good. If he does take the stand the prosecutor will have a field day with him. This case could be a very ugly mess. I will be interested to see what defense strategy his attorney employs. Keeping Crowley out of court will only work if she is ensconced in a safe house somewhere where she cannot be subpoenaed. But at this point money is running out for Johnny. The Browns released him, but now he has to pay high priced defense lawyers and for the damages he caused at his parties in LA plus two agents fired him in the last month. What a train wreck this is !!!!!!!

The NFL draft is tomorrow night and for the first time in memory, i don't care about it and probably won't bother watching. I don't even know (or care) who is favored to be picked first.

There is a criminal investigation into the hack of Laremy Tunsil's twitter account which cost him millions of dollars, and his slipping at least 7 and maybe 10 or more spots in the NFL Draft:

http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_...ing-bong-video-alleged-ole-miss-text-messages

During the draft, it was mentioned that his step-father may have been responsible behind the hack.

In other news, the Buffalo Bills did not pick up the 2017 option on QB EJ Manuel. He was their first-round pick 4 years ago.
