Not sure if Vermont brewed beers are allowed to be sold in Montreal, but in my last trip I stopped in Plattsburgh near the Canadian border and bought some of the Lawson's Maple Imperial Stout. It is delicious, it is 10.1 ABV (hence is not piss or nowhere near) and is made with Vermont maple syrup but is not too sweet. It is just right:

BTW in case you guys do not know, and frankly if you are in this thread you should know, that Vermont is the microbrew capital of the northeastern USA. I think it is actually considered the best per capita microbrewed beer state in the whole USA. The beer products coming out of this state are amazing. This is the same state that gave us Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream, which revolutionized the entire ice cream industry and now all you see is copycat ice cream products imitating these pioneers in the field.
You can always drive across the border and buy some. Burlington is only 1.5 hours drive from Montreal, but you do not even need to go that far.
