Unless a team gets very lucky a true & successful rebuild usually takes 5 years. But for the process to begin they must figure out a way to get rid of Carey Price and his big fat contract. It likely won’t be this hard to get him to agree to waive his non-movement clause since i doubt he’ll want to stick around for a rebuild. The hardest part will be to find a dance partner. Not many teams out there have the cap space to accomodate such a big contract….especially a goatender’s….and it’ll have to be with a city he doesn’t mind moving to. And the habs can’t get greedy.Which is more likely to happen for the next 2 seasons, at least, maybe more.
But as i said i’m not sure the fans will want to keep on paying top prices for a team that keeps on losing hockey games. I’m aleady hearing that many long time season ticket holders won’t be renewing their tickets. And Geoff Molson absolutely needs & wants the arena to be sold out in order to make money and continue making the team profitable.
The team also needs to hit a bullseye at the upcoming draft where they have many picks. They can’t strike out like they’ve been doing over the past decade.
