My expectations were exceedingly low, yet somehow Biden is poised to have the "best" midterm showing since Bush Jr (which was during wartime).

The ads here were insane. Republicans tried to blame everything on Democrats:

- inflation (a worldwide phenomenon that not a single Republican proposed a solution for)

- crime and bail reform (which is up in certain places including many red states, but is ultimately a local issue. And a strong majority of current criminals aren't people out on bail. In other words, a bail reform campaign leading to more crime is a red herring).

- the border (Biden absolutely bears some blame for changing how illegal aliens are released, but this also misses the larger context that more and more people have been coming since Bush Jr's term and the continually deteriorating conditions in Central and South America only make illegal immigration more inviting to desperate people. Fairly well-represented in deportees are people who have been deported once or more).

The final tally isn't in yet, so not all the takeaways are available. The only takeaway available so far is a huge number of Trump-endorsed candidates didn't do well at all. Even Herschel Walker who is still somehow in a runoff is underperforming percentage-wise to the Republican governor that won re-election in Georgia (as John Mellencamp would say, "Ain't That America"). Braindead candidates that have the added touch of being assholes, or embrace electoral results only when they win? Those people are loved by the Republican base, and that's about it.

In closing, the GOP would fare a lot better if they didn't get their candidate recommendations from the stable genius who said this :D

"In an interview with NewsNation conducted before polls closed, when asked how much credit he believed he deserved for any of the more than 330 candidates he endorsed throughout the cycle, Mr. Trump said, “Well, I think if they win, I should get all the credit. And if they lose, I should not be blamed at all, OK, but it’ll probably be just the opposite.”

Biden was having a great week until...his handlers put him a plane to go to Egypt where he had trouble, as usual, reading a teleprompter.

When will his people learn that Grandpa does not like to travel anymore? He has already been around the world many times while helping his son and brother make money and he just cannot support time zone changes. He got all mixed up while giving his speech.

And yet somehow--somehow!--this guy that can't even read a teleprompter keeps finding new ways to hand y'all your asses :p. I think I'm slowly being converted into the whole Dark Brandon meme after all.

You guys have every reason to be beating him right now, except you decided to double down on extremist politics (abortion, election denial) and nominating candidates from each category in the DSM-V (I stole that latter joke from Tooning Out The News. Too perfect a joke not to steal it).

Biden or the Democrats did much better in the midterms than the previous president.
He is keeping the Senate and did much better than expected at the House.
Also, at key positions in the States, the Trumpist candidates didn't do that well.
Could some american had grown some brain ?

yep a big week pour the DEMS ....and a major slap in the face for big/dummy TROMP.

I'm as surprised as you! Let's hope it lasts.

If Republicans come back to Earth, results will be different. However, that's a pretty big "if." I remember the objectives Republicans came up with after Obama won reelection. It was essentially tacking back to the center and attracting more voters of color. (Yes, I know Democrats have also moved more to the left, but nowhere near the GOP shift).

But rather than follow their own report, they only tacked further right. Now, a Republican running for election can say something like "If I win, you'll never see a Democrat win in this state again" or a pro-life group can put out a statement saying a raped 10 year old should have had the baby and the insanity of their positions never occur to them. Oh by the way, those two examples I just mentioned aren't made up; they happened!

DO NOT confuse a better than expected Democratic showing at the midterms as some kind of mandate for Biden. He is a terrible President, and the Democrats need to do better than him in 2024. I believe he will be defeated if he runs, but the Democrats, if they are smart, will choose a better candidate to run.

Biden is just barely ok to me, but whatevs. He's "terrible" but getting some important shit done (infrastructure, lowering prescription drug prices) when the courts aren't nixing initiatives (student loan debt relief, which I fully support even though I paid mine off 4 years ago). But you're right that the results aren't a mandate. Per the exit polls, there were many people that weren't personally enamored with Biden's performance that voted for Democrats anyway. Biden won more of those voters that disapproved of him than Trump did in 2018.

If Biden runs in 2024, his reelection depends on who wins the Republican nomination. DeSantis = Trump + discipline + adult attention span thus he's a more formidable opponent.

But Biden is far less likely to lose to Trump if Trump gets the nod. As for Biden's inherent advantages, he's pretty much a middle-of-the-road guy. That's what allowed him to win the 2020 nomination in the first place. Also, as someone on Fox actually said last week that unlike Obama, people don't really hate Biden that much. It's hard to dog whistle that the president is black (oh the horror!) or a woman when he's an old white guy that's prone to being corny.

Trump is also advantageous against Biden because in addition to not accomplishing much, Trump is so polarizing and utterly abysmal in every conceivable way that he motivates a significant portion of the electorate to always show up to vote. He fluked into one win because of the Electoral College (and an unfocused opponent who was equally loathed in Hillary) and that's been it. No other president has lost the House, Senate and presidency in one term like Trump did. Even well before DeSantis' strong win last week there were focus groups that concluded it was wiser to move on from Trump not because GOP voters no longer love him but because he's a constant drag on the ability to win (because this GOP, counter to what Senator Patrick Moynihan called the GOP in 1981, is the party of winning and not the party of ideas). So despite the current right wing media pitting Trump as the fall guy for the midterm results and suggesting DeSantis is the future, the source of the entire problem plaguing the country--the GOP voter--has yet to have their say.

I just found out that Hunter Biden's laptop is real! I can't believe it!

All this time I was sure it was a Russian hoax. Fifty top American spy experts said so!

If you can't trust American spy experts, who can you trust? Je suis boulversé par cette nouvelle. o_O

The latest revelations by Elon Musk about Twitter making up a reason to block the Hunter Biden story have all the hallmarks of a Russian disinformation campaign...don't they? Maybe? I think.

That is “f—ed.”

Twitter “just freelanced” its baseless decision to censor The Post’s bombshell Hunter Biden laptop scoop in the run up to the 2020 election — with top-level workers at the social media giant agreeing that controversial decision was “f–ked,” damning insider communications released by CEO Elon Musk Friday reveal.

The chaos and confusion behind closed doors at Twitter in the immediate aftermath of the October 2020 Hunter Biden expose show that a small group of top-level execs decided to label the Post’s story as “hacked material” without any evidence — behind the back of then-CEO and founder Jack Dorsey.

Musk tweeted a link to the account of independent journalist Matt Taibbi shortly after 6 p.m., who shed light on Twitter’s shady censorship decision by posting what appeared to be redacted emails between Twitter employees...

Remember the famous photos of Hunter and friends? It was clear to me from the start that Putin himself faked these photos. Isn't it obvious? They have all the hallmarks of a Russian disinformation campaign. Papa Joe, AKA "the Big Guy," said it was Russian disinformation and he never lies.

It must all be fake because I can't imagine anyone spending tens of thousands of dollars on these girls.
