I don't think it's fair to direct hate towards all Americans. Toward their president and the MAGA crowd, sure - given their eagerness to stir global instability and apparent fascination with cozying up to Russia - but they're certainly not all like that. To be honest, we've got plenty of our own morons to handle (on both ends of the spectrum). But I would be fine to permanently banning and instantly deporting any tourist/foreigner exibiting anti-canadian behavior while within our borders. Freedom of speech should never mean freedom from consequences.
Responding firmly to these tariff threats makes complete sense. As Canadians, we pride ourselves on fairness and diplomacy, but we've tolerated this nonsense long enough. Regardless of how this tariff situation plays out, it's long past time we diversified our trade ASAP - inter-provincially, with South America, the EU, and the Commonwealth. Diversifying now sends a clear message, strengthens our economy, supports Canadian businesses, and safeguards our future. Frankly, an apology from them wouldn't hurt either - but sea level will rise before that ever happens.
On the upside, it's encouraging to see how, under a common threat, all provinces quickly unite. We should build on this unity instead of allowing external or internal players to pit us against each other. Pointing fingers and acting arrogant isn't strength; it’s poor upbringing. Let’s not follow that example. Americans remain our closest relatives, and the path forward should lead toward unity and peace, not whatever direction we’re heading now.
Oh, and keeping their questionable-quality food out of our pantries seems like a solid first step.
