It's interesting because a couple days ago, I was watching an interview with a woman who worked as an escort in the southern US for several years. She was asked by the interviewer why men hire escorts. She answered that it wasn't simply because they were "horny". Many of them had more complex reasons. They were lonely, they were going through something, they wanted to share their joy with somebody else.
I found it interesting because we tend to consider that women associate sexuality and companionship with their emotions, while men "just want to fuck" and "only put up with the woman to get their dick sucked". It's interesting to challenge these stereotypes once in a while. I don't expect that to happen here, which is basically a cyber locker room where I suspect people aren't being totally honest with other users, and with themselves.
I did think about this video in a critical way because it doesn't always reflect my experience with clients, but I realize that the reasons why men hire escorts largely vary depending on several factors. Even over the years, I have noticed certain tendencies in my clients.
I will accept this challenge and be candid. There is something much heavier than loneliness – emptiness. When you are a middle-aged immigrant, it is exceptionally hard to survive emotionally in a city like Montreal. I know many people, but they are all families, and they usually need me only when they need someone to house-sit, or to watch their kids or dogs. Despite having a master's degree and a career in Europe, here I had to start everything from scratch – from college to another master's. For the first 10 years, I left at 7 in the morning every day and returned at 11 at night – working during the day and going to school at night. Over the following years, I turned into a modern slave to the corporate world – working 12-14 hours on weekdays and 10 hours on weekends. Time is the biggest thief, and inertia misled me into believing that one day everything would change. After so much fatigue, disappointment, struggle, and humiliation, I needed to feel alive at least once a week. For me, this wasn’t just a hobby; it was my dose of life to recharge me for the coming week. And right when I was at the peak of my career, with high compensation and a good position in an international company, God sent me a sign that it was time for a change. He delivered this message in the heaviest and most repulsive way possible for an immigrant. And one day, I simply walked away from everything I had fought for so long in Montreal. I left with a broken heart, but the loneliness and the struggle turned me into a man I never even dreamed I could be. Now, I am enjoying the sea, the sunset, and the sunrise in Europe. I am ready for this new life, and I hope that this time, instead of heartbreak, God will leave me with a scar of happiness.
