What is the best recent movie you’ve seen.

I'm gonna go the opposite way on this thread and say the worst movie I've seen recently which is Rosemary's Baby.

I just watched it and hated every second of it. For so-called horror classic, it's so incredibly dull.

Literally nothing exciting happens in this movie! Nothing!

It's essentially a 2 hours 16 minutes film of just talking & family drama BS with hints of horror, that's it!

I saw it for the first time a few years ago & kind of felt the same way. But let’s remember that this movie came out in 1968. Likely had we seen it when it first came out we likely would have enjoyed it much more since we wouldn’t have all the similar antichrist movies that came out afterwards to compare it with. To be honest after seeing the two-part miniseries remake from a few years ago i preferred the remake. A year or two ago i watched ‘Apartment 7A’ which i realized as i was watching it was a prequel to the Rosemary’s Baby original movie. I enjoyed the movie so right after i decided to watch Rosemary’s Baby again & for some reason i liked it more than i did the first time i saw it.

Yeah same here but I wouldn't say it was amazing or such. Rather had some memorable scenes and was just better than the trite we're served up by streaming services lately

Agreed 1000% but it is a must see! The parts that were so bizarre made me laugh!!!

They did have a "sneak peek" showing for Spider-Man: Brand New Day on Wednesday. I should know (since I saw it that day, lol).

Movie was really good...the 2nd best Tom Holland Spidey (No Way Home is still #1).

Some things I really liked:

1. The emphasis on NYC: it really stands out in this film!
2. The chemistry between Spidey and Punisher is excellent. Bernthal shines, per usual
3. Great acting from Holland. They really go deep into the character of Peter Parker / Spiderman, which is something new and I hope they continue with future films.
4. Great visuals...the director really hits it our of the park with the action scenes, etc.

Overall: 8/10 for me

The Odyssey is easily the best film of the year for me, by far. It's a long film, but it totally comes together for that final act. I have a feeling Matt Damon will probably get an Oscar for his role.

I saw it in 70mm IMAX, and it was well worth it. It's films like this that justifies the theatre experience.

Dune 3 comes out this December, and should be another "major" movie-going experience. We'll see how it does over The Odyssey when it comes out.

Overall: 9/10

I liked Obsession...can we at least agree it was better than Backrooms?

- Good acting (mainly by Inde Navarrette)
- A simple premise, but with a complex dilemma. Well thought out, and disturbing (morally-wise).
- There's some funny parts too, which I enjoyed
- The ending was good. I guessed part of it, but not all. Was well thought out.

If I had to rate it, I'd give Obsession 8.5/10

As much as I would love Villeneuve to top Nolan at the oscars, I feel Dune is facing an uphill battle here.

Villeneuve’s rendition of Frank Herbert’s universe is stunningly gorgeous, no doubt… but we’ve already seen it twice! Nolan’s take on greek mythology, on the other hand, is just as jaw dropping but entirely new. That alone might be enough to sway the Academy.

Maybe...but on the other hand, it can be like the LOTR trilogy. Return of the King wasn't the best out of the three films, but it was the only LOTR film to win the Oscar for best film. Was more a reward for the entire trilogy, in general.

I'm thinking a similar thing might happen with Dune 3. The first two were amazing, and I'm expecting the same for part 3.

Btw, I saw the opening 10 minutes of Dune 3 at a special screening....AMAZING. Think of the opening for Saving Private Ryan, but applied to the Dune universe. Should be great (especially with the 70mm IMAX format).
