I'm wondering if there are coffee shops/restaurants, etc that offer free wireless internet, as I'm bringing my 10" Netbook with me. My hotel charges for internet, just wondering if I could get by with some free WiFi instead of buying it from the hotel. I'm staying very close to Peel Metro. Any places come to mind? Thanks.

If you have a smartphone with data services, download PDA.net for free (Google it). Follow all of the instructions, then connect your Netbook to the smartphone via USB cable. Result is internet anyplace your phone has data services. I have a Asus 10" Netbook I do this with and the thing is fast as hell virtually anywhere I want it. Of course, it could be the SSD & upgraded memory helping it.......
P.S. Additional tip: During my recent visit to Toronto I was able to call my US Cell Carrier, Sprint, and arrange for them to provide service in Toronto for a specific number of days. They'll charge you like $2 bucks a day or something. It really wasn't a big deal. Sprint was most happy to cooperate. Interestingly enough I was able to log on several times in route from Buffalo to Toronto. It was great in the hotel room to be free of paying the extra fee.

It's a little further west but the Sports Station on the corner of Fort and Ste-Catherine has free wi-fi, cheap but decent food for the money and big screens to watch whatever your fave sport happens to be. They serve a really good breakfast too. It's about a 5 minute walk from the Guy metro station, maybe 15 minutes from Peel.
That's the one. There is another one on Ste-Catherine East, in the gay village, which is also mentioned in the reviews in that link, and one on the south shore. They are owned by Peter Sergakis, the owner of the Amazon and a number of other bars around town.

Sprint's Canada Roaming Option that I've used many times is quite cheap and allows one to make fairly cheap phone calls. I've never been able to use the voice minutes or the unlimited data my plan provides. In fact, data usage is very expensive using this option, so much so that I totally disable all data usage other than WiFi.
I'd love to hear the specifics of what you arranged if it allowed you to use your data plan without charging by the byte.
I do remember they had a byte limit per day for a very minimal $ amount. However, it was more than enough. Frankly, I've been so satisfied with the pricing it didn't seem worth remembering. That being said, free is better. Rumps mentioned that network below and I got to thinking........Amazon has some extended range USB modules and some boosters that might work. Based upon the downtown coverage range, having one of these USB Modules (Like $20 to $40) might make the issue non-existant. God I hate saying this, but thanks Rumps!
Cafe Castel that is attached to Best Western Ville Marie offers free internet to its customers. Great coffee as well.
