No so "glorious" eh marc7. The answer to the "test" was they got destroyed, and they got destroyed in a huge blowout fashion by a team with an overall -1 goal differential. How the heck does that happen to a divisional 3rd place team if you are a true Cup contender. Fans need to pay attention to what is really going on. Pumping up your ego by beating injury depleted teams like the Bruins is little more than a quick sugar high. The Habbies got their ass kicked by a team that's still 9th in the conference and had a -6 point differential overall before the game...WELCOME TO CANADIENS REALITY. You should call the Habs the Habs Beens from now on. OUCH.

Tokarsky couldn't stop a beach ball last night. The habs better hope that Carey Price doesn't go down with a serious injury once again this season.
Montreal is also 26th in the league in power play percentage. P.K. Subban's plus/minus is currently even. In other words, he currently has no benefit to the team when they're even on both sides. His biggest asset to the team is usually on the power play. However, teams have adjusted their coverage & now put a spy on him, preventing him from making that big shot from the point.
If he doesn't improve his stats soon, people will start losing patience with the highest-paid defenceman in the history of hockey.
Gaston Therrien just said on L'Antichambre that he's extremely with Subban's season so far & added that there's no way he's among the top 15 defencemen in the league. By the way, he finished 14th in votes for the Norris trophy last season. Giving him that huge contract prior to the season (on the owner's orders) may wind up haunting the habs for many years to come.
p.s. He's currently 115th in the league for defencemen in plus/minus & 34th for shots on goal. Very disappointing indeed.

The Calgary Flames are on a 5 game slump, it started when their first line injuries returned. I think I would see if it was a coincidence or not and sit a few players.
Calgary was playing over their heads and it was bound to catch up with them, they are a decent team but not likely a playoff team this season. The Leafs on the other hand are on a 5 game winning streak and are 1 point behind Montreal with a game in hand and 2 points behind Tampa for the top spot in Division and the Leafs also have a game in hand on them as well. Also they are 1 point behind Pittsburgh in the Eastern Conference. The Leafs have won 8 out of their last ten and have points in 9 of those games. (yes I realise I likely just jinxed them)

The latest victim of the mumps is Derek Brassard of the NY Rangers.

The Edmonton Oilers just fired coach Dallas Eakins.
GM Craig MacTavish will be the interim head coach. They've brought up Todd Nelson from their farm system to be assistant-coach.
So basically, a former Oiler who became an Oiler coach, then got fired, then got hired as GM will be the team's head coach until the end of the season.

As i stated after the summer, it was going to take 20 or so games to see how all the new summer additions would pan out and at about that 20th game is when things started to gel and the boys have been playing pretty darn good hockey these last 10/11 games (9-1-1)
*Carlyle and the coaching staff are getting the guys on the team to buy into what they are selling
*Nonis like any GM has to take risks at times and there are many GM's who sit on what they got and do not take risks and i for one am glad we have a GM who at least try's to improve the team by doing so and so far it looks like ALL of his offseason moves have helped so far and some in huge ways. Santorelli/Panik/Komorov have been huge and Robidas is finally starting to perform the way they hoped when he was signed.
*Phaneuf is our best Overall Defenseman and anyone who thinks he is not in the top 20 dmen in the league needs to shake their heads. Captain Canada is a very good player and leader and is having his best season in years.
*Franson, i must admit (as i did to Doc the other night) has made me eat my words (so far) and he is becoming a very good player. The way he is going tho, he is gonna be due a huge raise this offseason so what to do? Bernier/Kadri/Franson are all on pace to get significant raises so one might be the odd man out and be traded unless cap room can be cleared (A Gardiner trade perhaps) and Bernier aint going anywhere that's for sure.
The Leafs have lots of character and depth for once and that combimed with skill, maturity, leadership (especially with some of the new guys) and good coaching. Character and Maturity can help greatly through a long season. Time will tell if this is a mirage or the real deal this time. I loved the moves made over the summer and right now they are looking very good. Now watch the Ducks (the best team in the NHL as we speak) kill us tomorrow night :lol: but even if that happens, it is how the boys respond after a big butt whooping, the following game. They Shook off the Nashville 9-2 drubbing and went on to play their best hockey of the season so far.

I still don't think Carlyle is a good coach.
I do feel what Nonis did improving their forward depth was very good. This goes back to Holland (last year), plus Komarov, Santorelli, Winnik, Booth. We made many comments about these moves in the Leafs Nations thread.
Some bad news:
* the Leafs CORSI rating indicates that they are not a good team (the Leafs rating is 46, the average is 50)
* article in Toronto Star believes that they won't even make the playoffs, based on the CORSI rating
* Leafs have only played 10 road games this year (out of 30 games) and its the lowest number of road games for a team so far this year
I think the proof in the pudding will be after the Leafs next long stretch of 22 games. They have 17 road games, and 5 home games (between Thu Dec 18 - Fri Feb 6).
Hey, I have been a Leafs fan since I saw them for the first time when I was a kid.
Their Corsi has been improving lately and like i said it would take time to adjust with all the new faces and all the departures as well. What is sort of good news if history repeats itself is the Leafs usually play pretty good on the road and seem to be and play more loose and relaxed. (in the good sense)
I think a lot of the recent success should go to the Assistant Coaches and more so to the character guys they brought in to help Dion lead this team, a good Captain has throughout history had others to help him lead and Dion now has that thus taking some of the burden off his shoulders and his play has improved this season, not that if was all that bad before.
