Patrick Sharp out at least for one month

Hawks star Patrick Sharp will miss at least one month due to a right knee injury.

The 32-year-old suffered the injury during his team’s 5-0 win over the Montreal Canadiens. Sharp was hit in the corner by Canadiens defenceman Alexei Emelin and was unable to get up.

The Winnipeg native has three goals and nine points in 13 games so far this season and leads his club in power play time, having averaged 4:15 a game.

He’s been an integral part of the Blackhawks in recent years, scoring 30-plus goals in each of the last three full seasons, and scoring 69 or more points in all of them.

Sharp's loss will likely be felt by the Hawks, who are battling other teams for a playoffs spot in the very tough western conference.

I think you "good lucked" the Oilers to a win bro, yikes! The Rangers are a good team but have some key players on the shelf with injuries right now.

The Leafs took another 2 points tonight in Ottawa and are suddenly looking good and only 3 points in back of Montreal and should catch and or surpass detroit this week. Boston on wednesday will be a chance for them to right the ship that went wrong a couple weeks ago against the bruins, but a tough game this week for sure.

Lots of moves being made by the habs over the past couple of days.

After waiving Rene Bourque, they shipped his lazy ass to the minors since no one claimed him. Jiri Sekac will take up his spot in the lineup on a full-time basis. He can't be worse, plus he's European. They love their Europeans in Mtl. They also recalled some kid named Drayson Bowman. I don't expect him to remain with the team for very long. He's simply not an NHL-calibre player.

This afternoon, they traded veteran Travis Moen to Dallas for 40-year Russian defenceman Sergei Gonchar, whom i thought had retired from hockey 2 seasons ago. Gonchar has always been injured over the past few years and has only played 3 games this season, getting only 1 assist. He's making $5 million this season, the last year of his contract. Gonchar is the perfect example of a player in denial who should have retired years ago.

All i'll say about it is that i'm not surprised. They're getting rid of Moen's contract next season. It's a basically a financial decision for next year, when Gallagher and Galchenyuk are RFA. P.K. Subban's $9 million/per season contract for the next 8 years has pretty much handcuffed the team budget and they need to free up cap space for next season in order to re-sign their two prized young players. I'm also not surprised because Gonchar fits the current format: he's old and he's a Russian.

Great game at the ACC tonight! The great Doc Emrick who was calling the game even went as far to say Phil Kessel would be in the HOF one day with his all world talent and frankly i agree. Two more goals tonight for "The Thrill" as the Leafs pounded boston 6-1 to end the b's winning streak and extend the Leafs to 6-1-1 in their last seven. Hopefully the b's will be ticked off and nasty tomorrow night in Le Centre Bell and take it to Mtl. Enjoy popping your Canadiens Live at the Bell Center Cherry Mr.T and try the smoked meat and a poutin!

And the last time Leafs lost in reg was to the Bruins on Oct 25. That was a pathetic game for the Leafs. Tonight they totally dominated the Bruins.

Big test for Toronto Friday night against Pitt at home. The Leafs have exploded for 16 goals in their last 3 games. When Shanahan/Nonis bought in all the new guys this summer/fall it was only fair to assume it would take some time (10-20 games) to see what the chemistry would be and it seems there is a very good fit of players now that they have had some time to learn a new system and gel with new teammates.

That game may have led to the turnaround. It may have been the wake-up call the Leafs needed since they've only lost once in regulation since!

It looks like Corey Perry & Francois Beauchemin will be out of the Ducks lineup for a while. They've both been diagnosed with the Mumps. I kid you not!

BOYZ,

Hold everything muchacho. Considering the 20-game suspension to Carter Ashton for using PEDs last night's official win is on hold until all of the Leafs can be piss tested. :D Just kidding señor cool guy. It was shocking to catch up to the game last night. It sounded like the announcer was dead drunk when I heard the score on the radio. I had to get home and confirm it with several sources to believe it. Great dominating win for the Leafs. It could be the highlight of the whole season.

I hear the Leafs are 6-1-1 in their last 8 games. Okay they are playing well and I won't even check which teams they faced to see what kind of value that streak really has. But a lot of the reports this morning are referring to the previous meeting with the Bruins and noting that the Leafs were probably emotionally high to get back at the Bruins at home after an embarrassing loss away. Was last nights game typical of their year long efforts? They've had impressive winning streaks before only to face the same yearly results. What is the real character of this team. I see that their goal differential is tied for 4th among the leaders. But again, they've been good early in the season before.

Cheers,

Merlot
