Taqueuese,

I have seen most of the first 3 seasons of Californication. In my estimation David Duchovny is better in the X Files than in Californication although he is good in both TV shows and his characters are even similar in some ways. In X Files though his Fox Mulder character is a walking one liner even with crazed murderers and monsters all around him. The writers of X Files do tongue in cheek humor better than anyone on TV. And Duchovny is a tremendously underrated actor for executing those lines and that kind of humor.

There was a warning on language and violence before the X files TV show last night. The murders were very gory and brutal.

I don't really have an answer for your question but you have to distinguish between network TV and cable TV. On cable TV there is all kinds of sex and nudity on shows like Game of Thrones. X Files is broadcast on Fox and Fox, CBS, NBC and ABC all are answering to network censors. Fox has always pushed the envelope with the violence and controversial subject matter. These warnings before the episode are something fairly new.

I definitely distinguish between network tv and cable tv. I started watching True Blood because I was just flipping channels and I came across a sex scene, I was like "Whats that!" and then got hooked and went back and started watching older episodes till I caught up. That show started of great and just went on a weird tangent.

I am not a prude or offended by the violence just surprised that people find nudity more offensive than the gory violence. Fox has definitely been the network to push the envelope, I still can't believe what Family Guy gets away with.

I am going off subject of this thread so I will get myself back on track :)

Excited that Better Call Saul is starting this weekend, sure is taking care of my Breaking Bad withdrawals since the series ended

I used to love Entourage, I have the movie recorded but haven't gotten to it yet. Might be because I had a hard enough time getting through the 2 minute trailer.

Patron,

I can understand what you are saying, and I generally agree that all good TV shows must necessarily come to an end.

That being said, I was incredibly impressed with the quality of the 6 episodes of the X Files reboot. Chris Carter seemed to direct most or all of them, and the Reboot was as good as the show was at the peak of its glory in the 1990s, and I saw all of the original run, which was outstanding from 1993-1999 or so, and then kind of slowly deteriorated. Those shows, at that time, was some of the best written shows in the history of television. Since then The Wire came along, which in the crime drama category gets my vote as the best TV show of all time. But for conspiracy theory television X Files is the gold standard, and really one of the best shows of all time regardless of genre. Very good writing, directing, acting and the chemistry between the two leads is second to none.

I think it sets up a new X Files film- the 2 films they made were kind of disappointing compared to the TV series. I think the story plays better on TV as a series.

FOX should renew for 6 more TV episodes so we find out what happens.

X Files Reboot

By the way- to be precise, of the 6 episodes of the X Files reboot, the season opener and the season finale were the only two pure conspiracy episodes, and the middle 4 episodes, which were the best 4 of the 6, were "stand alone" episodes. I think they got the right mix- 2 stand alones to every one conspiracy episode. Homelessness, evolution, werewolves, were-lizards, suicide terrorists- the Reboot had it all.

Alien DNA Rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After finishing this brief season, I think it's safe to say that this season was a success. I think I preferred the "Monster/Paranormal episodes of the week", as opposed to the mythology this time around (overplayed), but I have to say I even enjoyed tonight's alien-centric episode. Hopefully another season happens.

I really like this new series "Second Chance". It kind of reminds me of a favorite of mine last year, Forever, which was surprisingly cancelled after only one season. I have a feeling that "Second Chance" will be renewed for a second season. However, i had the same feeling for "Forever".

Another current favorite is "Les Jeunes Loups". It plays on TVA and it's in its second season. Any series or movie with the great Luc Picard has to be good.

Just discovered "Chef's Table" on Netflix. It's not another cooking competition show, they are like mini documentaries on Chef's.

If you are into cooking, it's something you should definitely watch.

It's inspirational :)

Hey johnybird,

You may also like "Cooked" on Netflix.

Thanks Massagexxx, I watched the first episode 'Fire' this morning.
Very interesting how the series is broken down into the 4 natural elements, never viewed cooking in that way but it makes sense.

Really enjoyed it :)

Looking forward to watching 'Water', 'Air' & Earth.
