Trump recently fumed and called the trade deals we have with Canada and Mexico are terrible and wondered who would make such terrible deals.

Donald J. Trump (Dec 2019):

"America’s great USMCA Trade Bill is looking good. It will be the best and most important trade deal ever made by the USA. Good for everybody - Farmers, Manufacturers, Energy, Unions - tremendous support. Importantly, we will finally end our Country’s worst Trade Deal, NAFTA!"

President Donald J. Trump’s United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement Delivers a Historic Win for American Workers

Issued on: January 29, 2020

President Donald J. Trump: "The USMCA is the largest, most significant, modern, and balanced trade agreement in history. All of our countries will benefit greatly."

DELIVERING ON HIS PROMISE: President Donald J. Trump is replacing the outdated North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) with the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).

  • Today, President Trump is signing his historic USMCA deal, making good on his promise to deliver fairer and more reciprocal trade for the American people.
  • USMCA will replace the terrible NAFTA agreement that resulted in the loss of millions of American jobs and devastated communities across our country.
  • The deal marks a tremendous victory for American workers, farmers, manufacturers, and businesses alike.
STANDING UP FOR AMERICAN WORKERS: USMCA will deliver more jobs and better labor protections that benefit American workers, while fostering more growth for American businesses.
  • While NAFTA was a disaster for American workers, USMCA will deliver new jobs and better protections for hardworking Americans across the country.
  • USMCA has the potential to create nearly 600,000 jobs and generate up to $235 billion in economic activity.
  • This deal includes the strongest, most advanced, and most comprehensive labor chapter of any American trade agreement in history.
  • Workers in all sectors of the economy are expected to benefit from this landmark agreement.
  • USMCA is the first United States trade agreement to ever include a chapter supporting small and medium sized businesses.
SUPPORTING AMERICAN FARMERS: USMCA includes tremendous breakthroughs for American agriculture.
  • USMCA is a monumental win for American farmers and ranchers, improving access to Canadian and Mexican markets to export their goods.
  • As a result of President Trump’s efforts to secure a better deal for our farmers, American agricultural exports are expected to increase by $2.2 billion under USMCA.
  • Under the agreement, Canada has agreed to expand market access for American dairy, egg, and poultry producers.
    • The agreement is expected to grow annual dairy exports by nearly $315 million.
  • American wheat growers will have access to a more level playing field.
    • Thanks to this deal, Canada will finally give fair treatment to American-grown wheat.
DRIVING NEW GROWTH FOR THE AUTO INDUSTRY: USMCA will provide a massive boost to American manufacturers, particularly our vital auto industry.
  • USMCA will achieve fairer, more reciprocal trade that supports high-paying American manufacturing jobs and grows the economy.
  • USMCA includes innovative provisions to incentivize new investments in the American auto industry and support high-paying jobs for American auto workers.
    • New wage and rules of origin requirements included in the agreement will put American autoworkers on a level playing field with workers from other countries.
  • USMCA is expected to create up to 76,000 new auto jobs, spur $34 billion in new investment in the auto industry, and add $23 billion in auto parts purchases annually.
MODERNIZING REGIONAL TRADE: USMCA will bring our trade relationship with Canada and Mexico into the 21st century.
  • USMCA is a modern trade deal that will completely transform our trade relationship with Canada and Mexico and end the outdated NAFTA.
  • USMCA contains new protections for American intellectual property, ensuring strong, effective protection for American innovators and creators.
  • Included in USMCA is a first-of-its-kind chapter on digital trade, which the decades-old NAFTA was never updated to address.
    • The digital trade provisions included in this agreement will foster economic growth and innovation for years to come.
  • USMCA includes first-of-its-kind provisions to prohibit unfair currency practices and reinforce exchange rate stability.
  • The agreement includes the strongest environmental standards of any trade agreement in our history.
    • These standards are fully enforceable and will help prevent companies from moving out of the United States—and taking jobs with them—to avoid environmental rules.

Was he lying then or now ? Oh yes ! He's lying all the time !

Hard to follow someone who’s ripping all world’s agreements….even his own.
So nobody trust him anymore and therefore everybody will be reluctant to do business with US if they change agreements every now and then.

perhaps??!
Trump is bad for the U.S., bad for Canada, bad for Mexico, bad for Europe, and bad for the world. Harris would not have started a trade war with Canada with the goal to harm the Canadian economy or threatened a shooting war with Canada to annex your sovereign nation. Anyone who can't see the difference between trump and Harris is politically myopic and a damn fool.

When I listen to Harris I more times than not roll my eyes and shake my head. Almost every time I listen to Trump and MAGA buffoonery I want to vomit.

More and more sane Americans protest against the effects of Trump craziness on their daily life conditions.
If he gets tired of that, he could ask his idiot chief of defense to mobilise US armed forces against them !

The US propaganda system is a poweful thing ....

Oligarchs like Musk can claim to be libertarians yet happily receive the largese of billions of dollars in federal government contracts not to mention the benefit of 100% tariffs on Chinese EVs.

So much for free market capitalism.

Meanwhile his DOGE scam will shakedown, impoverish and ruin the lives of countless Americans, all to benefit tax cuts for himself and his ilk, while greatly furthering the economic gap between the rulers and the ruled.

As trump and musk ruin the country people will take to the streets in protest. I fully expect trump calling in the national guard and army to put down the protests. Blood will be shed, lives will be lost as American freedoms are taken from us by this monster.

He probably thinks he's doing us a great honour in "inviting" [aka economic coercion] Canada to become the 51st state and is genuinely bewildered by the negative reaction.

Funnily enough he didn't profer the same invitation to Mexico! My guess is he watched a hockey game once, noticed the players were all white, and said to himself, "Yeah, we could us more of that!"

Trump did put heavy tariiffs on vehicules and parts produced outside USA. It will certainly rise the prices in USA for quite some time and if the production move to USA, will the cost get lower ?
I heard that unemployment is already low (4%) in USA.
Will the auto industry have to raise the salary of his workers to hire new ones ?
I am not sure the orange clown has tought above all aspects of his tariffs effects.

Big big /sad gambling....he has just declared WAR to the rest of the world......de la pure folie....there will b no winner ONLY losers......à commencer par les US.

Does he know that tariffs are paid by the Americans that buy the products ?
His goal is to move all the production in USA. Can it be made in a few weeks or months ?
He negotiated himself the present commercial agreement with Canada and Mexico. Those tariffs are probably illegals but for that lawless man it doesn't count.
Could his family make him consult a psychiatrist ?

He wrote on True Social that if EU and Canada join to fight these tarrifs, those two COUNTRIES will pay high consequences.
So he thinks EU is a country !
Please put him in a padded room in a mental facility, it urges !

The sad thing is what’s not good for US is not good for Canada….let’s hope economy will shift quickly enough with new partners.
For aluminum, it’s fairly easy but it will badly hurt US. Quebec alone produce 60% of what is consume by US industries. Access to cheap aluminum help them to be competitive in order to manufacture goods…and then sell back these goods in Canada.
For cars, it’s a different thing. They buy 10B$ more than they sell to Canada. It will be harder to redirect cars let say in Europe or else.
We’ll see.

NEW partners will b the ONLY solution...BUT it's a long and complex process....so first tariffs barriers must b abolished in our own country.....should b quiet easy to do.....circonstances exigent....first little step...and for cars let's open the door to China/electric cars
and abolish the 100 percent tariff.....we did that to please BIDEN....it's new sad era....we have to move on...l'Union Européenne imposes a 27 percent tariff on electric cars from China.....why not doing the same...even less....it's another ball game....my 2 cents.

Chinrese electric cars are already sold in Quebec and Canada and I never heard bad things about them.
China could be a better economic partner than USA at least as long as the ornge clown is in power or that is brain begin to function.
I wouldn't bet too much on that. He surrounded himself with yes men.

Sure there will be winners, the government. The tariffs are set to make the US government billions of dollars. The loosers will be the working class.

Yet no one talks about this. Canada started by slapping tariffs on Chinese EVs because apparently they were too cheap and the Canadian government was trying to protect businesses. At the end it is the customer that will pay more and have less choice. China retaliated by slapping tariffs on Canola exports to China. The farmers will pay the price in this. You cannot have stable economic partnership till government gets out of the way and allow free market trade.

They have the choice to make trade deals to export our LNG. Canada has the third largest oil reserves in the world. This could pump billions into the Canadian economy making tariffs less relevant. But this will never happen with a Liberal government in power. And agreed, all tariffs on Chinese EVs should be removed. This is a win win for Canadians as they will get more choice to buy lower cost EVs and it will create competition where the manufacturers will attempt to produce the best product at the best price. A win win for the working class.
